Megan Thee Stallion has been named the Artist Of The Year by Billboard at this year’s R&B Hip-Hop Power Players event. Accepting her award, Meghan Thee Stallion said:

“Okay? First of all, I want to thank God, yes, period. And then I want to thank my angels, my mama, my daddy, my granny, because I know they watching over me and nothing would be possible without them.”

While Megan Thee Stallion seemed content about receiving the award, the netizens were not pleased, as many criticized Billboard for giving her the award. Many commented on the news and gave names of other rappers and artists who they thought deserved to win the award.

One social media user commented on an Instagram account, @TheShadeRoom’s post about the same, and said:

“Her album sold 64k first week units and she hasn't had a top 20 hit since Nicki gave her a number 1, yeah ok.”

Many of Megan Thee Stallion’s songs from her 2024 album “Megan” were among the Billboard Hot 100 and Global 200 list

Megan Thee Stallion is best known for her songs like Last Week in HTx, Big Ole Freak, Realer, Hot Girl Summer, Ride or Die, Diamonds, Captain Hook and many more. While many of her songs have topped the Billboard charts, her recent album, Megan, released on June 28, 2024, had many songs that became an instant hit amongst the masses.

Having a total number of 19 songs in the album, many songs were on the Billboard list, with the song Hiss being on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200 list.

On the other hand, the album’s lead single, Cobra was also included in the US Billboard Hot 100 list at number 32. More of the album songs like Boa, Mamushi, and many more were also on the list.

As per Billboard, her entire album, Megan, was at number 3 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The other songs in the album were Rattle, Where Them Girls At, Broke His Heart, Find Out, Accent, Paper Together, Worthy, Moody Girl and even It’s Prime Day.

Announcing Megan Thee Stallion as the Artist Of The Year, Billboard’s Editorial Director Hannah Karp announced:

“There’s only one woman who has topped the Hot 100 with a rap song this year, and I am thrilled to have her with us tonight. Not only did she kick off 2024 with a bang with that incredible No. 1 “HISS,” but she debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in June as an independent artist, no less. The biggest debut for any rap album released by a woman in 2024.”

Karp continued about Megan Thee Stallion:

“She also topped Billboard’s, Top R&B Hip-Hop albums chart for the second time in her career, becoming the sixth female rapper to do so, ever. And on top of it all, as a philanthropist, an activist, a college graduate, an entrepreneur and a fitness coach.”

As Megan Thee Stallion won the award for the Billboard Artist Of The Year, many social media users congratulated her, while many bashed her and the organization.

However, as of this writing, the rapper and singer has neither addressed the congratulatory posts, nor the negative comments pouring in.
