Snoopy Badass discussed Kendrick Lamar and the latter not being related to the Los Angeles Piru gang. The former claimed that Lamar had never fired a gun for any Piru member and did not deserve to be related to the Compton gang. This comes as K. Dot prepares to take the Apple Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show stage on February 9.
A clip of Snoopy Badass’ interview was reshared by live streamer DJ Akademiks on X on January 27. In the same, the former criticised people who who try to associate him with the gang and said:
“Kendrick has never gang b**ged bro in his life. He used to walk around Compton with a black hoodie, white t-shirt, big a*s earrings and he just rapped. He never wanted to pick up a pistol for Piru. Never wanted to try to fight for Piru. Never went to jail, nothing.”
For those uninitiated, the Pirus or the Piru Street Boys is a subset of the larger Bloods gang. It was founded in Los Angeles’ Compton by Sylvester Scott and Vincent Owens in 1969. As per Historica Fandom, the Crips stand as their nemesis.
Speaking about Kendrick Lamar and his alleged association with the Pirus, Snoopy Badass added:
“He ain’t never slid or did nothing for them dead homies.”
It is worth noting that Kendrick Lamar never explicitly stated that he belonged to any of the Los Angeles or West Coast gangs. However, he did receive praise for seemingly uniting the members of various rival gangs during his The Pop Out: Ken & Friends Juneteenth concert.
“A potential Gang Truce in LA”- Ice T praised Kendrick Lamar for bringing rival gang members to his Pop Out concert
On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, Kendrick Lamar took to the Kia Forum, Los Angeles stage alongside multiple other rappers and LA gang members to celebrate Juneteenth. K.Dot’s diverse lineup included YG, Dr. Dre, Schoolboy Q, Mustard, DeMar DeRozan, Russell Westbrook, Tommy the Clown, and notable members of several Los Angeles gangs.
While reacting to the same, rapper Ice T took to X on June 22 to tweet:
“A Potential Gang Truce in LA is like a Cure for Cancer for us…. Extreme Respect to @kendricklamar.”
Kendrick Lamar’s association with the Los Angeles street gangs has been a topic of debate for years, however, he is not publically known to be a part of any gang. Previously, in his Average Joe 2010 track lyrics the Not Like Us creator sang:
“Everyone I knew was either Crip or Piru/ Cousines in elementary, relatives in high school/ With that being said, each one of their rivals/ Was aiming something at my head, I needed survival/ Got jumped, got jacked, shot at, shot back”
Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar is set to appear at the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show alongside SZA. The duo has collaborated numerous times in the past, including tracks like 30 for 30, Luther, Gloria, and All the Stars. In December, the duo also announced that they will be hitting the road together for K. Dot’s Grand National Tour, which will kick off in April.
