On Saturday, October 5, Canadian rapper Drake attended Tyrone Edwards’ Nostalgia Party in Toronto. At the event, the rapper was seen going on a full-on cryptic rant where he spoke about real friends and seemingly called out several others in the industry who had stabbed him in the back.
Shortly after being on stage, Drizzy said:
"My real friends are definitely in the building, but I’m gonna tell you: You’re going to come to a point in life where people you thought were friends, or people you thought were close to you, they might switch up..."
He then added how people are stabbed in the back and one has to walk alone in life. Drizzy further explained that that's how life is supposed to be. Many internet users later mocked him for his rant, even comparing him to a high-school kid.
XXL reported that the rapper then requested the DJ to play some songs that could be linked to his rant. The list included 50 Cent's Many Men and Beyoncé's Me, Myself and I. This caught netizens' attention who took to social media platforms to react.
A clip from the party circulated on social media and Akademiks TV on X uploaded the same. Here are some comments on the post:
"He def beefing w Hov," one of the comments read.
"I thought he wasn’t bothered 😂😂😂😂." a netizen tweeted.
"Damn he takin bout Hov," claimed another user.
"Kendrick turned Drake into a motivational speaker," added a tweet.
A lot of other people had expressed their take on the rapper.
"Lol just a rapper introducing the next track at a nostalgia show 🤗🤣," a user commented.
"This guy thinks he’s still in high school," tweeted a netizen.
"What is this high school behavior from the 6 GOD?? It can’t be 😵💫," wondered another user.
Drake had previously rapped about not having friends in the industry in his 2021 studio album Certified Lover Boy
While talking about Drake's recent rant about fake friends and those who stab in the back, it is worth noting that he had included the concept in the album titled Certified Lover Boy as well. The 12th song named No Friends In The Industry was a part of the album.
The song became quite popular and even secured 11th rank on the US Billboard Hot 100 and ninth on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The lyrics read:
"No friends in the industry/ My brothers been my brothers, man, you niggas ain't no kin to me, a fact, woah/ Yeah, you heard about me, you don't know me more than that."
As for the rant on Saturday, it happened sometime after Drake seemingly unfollowed many artists including Playboi Carti and Future, as reported by Billboard News on October 3. He reportedly ended up unfollowing NBA stars like LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan, who he previously had a good bond with.
Following the rant, The Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne Tha God explained that he didn't think that Drake was that hurt. On October 7, referring to the beef between Lamar and Drizzy, he said:
"I didn’t think that it had that much of an impact on Drake. Drake’s hurt. Oh my God, he is hurt..."
Drizzy had previously announced working with PartyNextDoor for a new project. No release date for the same has been revealed as of now.
