A detail from the expanded version of Mel B's memoir, involving Diddy, recently came to light amid the Bad Boy Records founder's ongoing legal woes.
The Spice Girls singer's memoir, Brutally Honest, first came out in 2018. In March 2024, Mel released a second version of the book with additional details about her personal experiences.
In the extended version, Mel recounted an encounter with Sean Combs at the 1998 MOBO Awards:
"People think I am so tough, and to some degree I am. I can stand my ground against the likes of Sean 'P. Diddy' 'Puffy' Combs."
The singer, who was preparing to host the show, said Combs and his entourage occupied the entire rehearsal stage and refused to move. Mel recalled only an hour was left before the curtains were lifted, but Combs wanted another go at his rehearsal. She wrote:
"I was watching, fuming, as he said he wanted another run-through. I marched out towards him. 'No, I need to rehearse my song NOW'".
Mel B added:
"He didn't even look at me, just raised his mic and said, 'Get this b***h off the stage'".
Mel B says Diddy sent her a jacket later as an apology
Mel B continued her run-in with Diddy as she shared that Combs' words and attitude had her "livid". She explained such behavior is not desired at British award shows, adding that nobody can use that kind of words against another. Mel B recalled nudging him on his shoulder.
"What did you say? Get WHAT off the stage?' He tried to ignore me, so I said, 'Listen, I'm introducing you tonight, so I'd be nice if I were you. The doors are opening in ten minutes. I need to rehearse. Can you get off the f**king stage!" she confronted Combs.
Mel B revealed she eventually got to rehearse her part. The singer said Diddy sent her a signed jacket through one of his bouncers half an hour later as an apology while she was dressing up for the show. She described the gift as a:
"a jacket with P. Diddy’s name splashed all over it. It looked like a bloody cagoule."
Mel B expressed she wasn't impressed by the gesture, stating she would not walk around wearing a jacket that paraded Combs' name on it. She recalled saying "thanks" to the bouncer with a feigned smile and tossed it to him.
"I wanted to send a message back. Nobody has the right to treat anyone like that. And some cr*mmy jacket was not an acceptable apology," Mel B added.
Mel B went on to host the award ceremony alongside comedian Bill Bellamy.
The singer previously shared a glimpse of the heated exchange during her appearance on The Richard Blackwood Show in 1999. Mel B revealed she was pregnant at the time and what Combs told her, wasn't nice to say to someone with child.
She went on to playfully simulate the confrontation with Blackwood. Mel seemingly expressed her disappointment over Combs sending his bodyguard with a peace offering instead of showing up himself.
