A video of DDG and Halle Bailey's one-year-old son, Halo, taking his first steps has gone viral online. The couple welcomed their first child in December 2023, and Halo quickly became an internet sensation.

In a video dated January 3, 2024, from a live stream, Halo is seen taking his first steps toward his mother. The video includes a background voice that appears to be his father, DDG, who also shot it. It begins with Halle Bailey encouraging the child to walk towards her with a toy.

Halo quickly took his first steps and hugged Bailey, with everyone cheering around him. The toddler also walked back from Bailey to another woman and took his first steps towards his father in the video. In a February 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Halle Bailey revealed how she and her ex-partner, DDG, came up with the name Halo for their son. She explained that they both fell in love with the name and "just agreed" on it. She added that DDG came up with the name.

“It was actually my boyfriend's idea. He's the one who came up with his name,” she said.

It is worth noting that Halo is also a popular track on Beyonce's 2008 studio album, I Am... Sasha Fierce. Bailey often considers the pop star her mentor. While she did not mention the song or album being an inspiration behind her son's name, she accepted that Beyonce's album “for sure has a theme song” for Halo.

Throughout 2023, Halle Bailey and DDG kept their pregnancy under wraps. This year, Bailey had multiple releases with The Little Mermaid and The Color Purple. Two months before the birth of Halo, DDG and Halle Bailey announced their split after spending over two years together.

In an Instagram post announcing their split, DDG wrote:

"The decision was not easy, but we believe it's the best path forward for both of us. We are still best friends and adore each other. As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co-parents, we cherish the bond we've built and the beautiful moments we've shared."

Halle Bailey first announced her pregnancy at the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards in March 2024. At that time, she explained that she kept her pregnancy a secret because of the state of the world in 2023, and the decision came from "a place of protection." She added that she did not want to share Halo, "the biggest joy" of her world, with anyone else. She called her son a gift and her greatest blessing.

Meanwhile, in a February 2024 appearance on Hollywood Unlocked’s The Jason Lee Show, rapper DDG explained that the pregnancy was "unplanned." He revealed that he and Halle Bailey found out about the pregnancy just after the premiere of Bailey's 2023 release, The Little Mermaid. The actress and singer played the titular character Ariel in the film.

However, the couple was happy with the news as they were both on the same page regarding welcoming a child. DDG said:

“Both of us have the same interest in being parents. And I feel like she always wanted to be a mom. We always kind of just give off that energy, and I always wanted a kid. So, from there we just made the decision to go through with it.”

Since Halo's birth, DDG and Halle Bailey have been public with their child. The one-year-old quickly became an internet favorite, with his parents sharing videos of him through their social media. In subsequent interviews, Halle Bailey has also opened up about struggling with postpartum depression and having body image issues after her pregnancy.
