On October 29, Lil Durk’s son Zayden Banks took to Instagram to extend support to his father. The rapper was placed in federal custody on murder-for-hire charges. Durk has been accused of placing a bounty on Chicago rapper Quando Rondo’s life.
While sharing a video of Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson showing support to Lil Durk, Zayden Banks said he wanted to stand up for his father, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks. He said that Durk has stood up for his community in the past through his non-profit organization, Neighborhood Heroes. Zayden added:
“Beyond that, he is a great father who has always supported and loved our family unconditionally. Right now, he is facing challenges, but I want to affirm that he has not been convicted of any charges and remains innocent until proven otherwise. During this difficult time, I ask for your support for him and all the good he continues to do.”
Zayden went on to express gratitude to the Chicago mayor by saying that his speech was well put together “and truly reflects the community’s support for those who strive to make a positive impact.”
Lil Durk has six children—Angelo, Bella, Du’mier, Skyler, Willow, and Zayden—with five different women. The mother of Zayden Banks remains unknown at the time of writing. Zayden was born in 2013, with his parents now presumably being broken up.
More about Lil Durk’s arrest as son takes to social media to support father
An affidavit filed with the federal court, based on testimony given by FBI agent Sarah Corcoran, alleged that Lil Durk had placed a bounty on rapper Quando Rondo’s life, as per CBS News. Durk’s fellow suspects, five of whom have been arrested, purchased flight tickets to carry out the murder for hire.
As per Billboard, Durk and his Only The Family (OTF) group associates, including Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston, allegedly used a credit card linked to OTP to purchase flight tickets and book hotel rooms during their attempt to kill Rondo.
Corcoran's testimony highlighted that the associates allegedly used “two vehicles to track, talk and attempt to kill [Quando Rondo] by gunfire — including with a fully automatic firearm— resulting in the death of S.R.” S.R is reported to be Rando’s cousin Saviay’a Robinson, also known as "Lul Pab."
The plot to carry out the murder was allegedly hatched in retaliation for the 2020 murder of Lil Durk’s friend and rapper King Von, as per the affidavit. Following King Von’s death, Rondo’s associate, Timothy “Lul Tim” Leeks was charged with murder.
It comes as no surprise that the Chicago mayor extended support to Durk, as the rapper had made a $150,000 donation to his campaign last year, as per Forbes. It was also reported by the U.S. District Attorney’s office that the musician attempted to flee the States prior to his country. The affidavit revealed that he had booked three flights to Italy, Switzerland, and Dubai; however, he did not board any of them.
Prior to his arrest, the singer was promoting his Deep Thoughts album, which is expected to release on November 22. With his recent arrest, it remains unclear as to whether the album will continue to be released on the scheduled date.
