Kanye West, who goes by Ye, and Ty Dolla Sign surprised fans by dropping the long-delayed second volume to their Vultures trilogy. On Friday, August 2, 2024, the rappers released their collab, Slide, followed by their album Vultures 2.
Buzz surrounding its release gained traction this week after Ye's website stated that the project would be available on Friday. However, as the news spiraled, the date was removed from the site, and fans speculated that the wait would be prolonged.
As news of the album's release spread, internet users were quick to react. Many especially commented on the project's first track, Slide. One remarked:
"He needs someone to write his raps."
Many praised the song, highlighting its beats and West's verse. One even stated his work on the song was better than 75% of Vultures. Here are some comments seen on X:
"Kanye did something with Slide," another fan commented.
"Kanye dropped !!!!! The first song is called slide. The beat is fire and I was like this sounds so nostalgic boom it's Omarion's Touch #VULTURES2," wrote another fan.
"Kanye's verse on Slide is better than 75% of his work on V1," another added.
Others were critical of the Heartless rapper's song, especially the lyrics.
"Slide was mid and Kanye ruined basically every song with a good feature," another remarked.
"I wanted so bad for Ye's verse to be good," one fan wrote.
"Lyrically not awesome, but it sounds really good tho," added another fan.
Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign's Vultures 2 was scheduled to drop in March 2024
In August 2023, NBC News reported that Ye planned to drop a new album. The reports were confirmed by Billboard the next month, adding that he was working with Ty Dolla Sign on a collaborative album, but the release was pushed back. In November, they dropped their eponymous lead single, Vultures.
In early 2024, West announced the album would be released in a trilogy over February, March, and April. Prior to its release, the duo held several multi-stadium listening parties to promote their project, including the Vultures Rave in Miami and Las Vegas. The first volume officially came out on February 10, 2024, becoming the debut album for the pair's supergroup, ¥$.
The album features guest appearances by artists Lil Durk, Travis Scott, Quavo, and West's daughter, North. It debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, and all 16 tracks from the project were featured on the Billboard Hot 100, with Carnival topping the list.
However, despite being scheduled to drop in March and April, the following two volumes in the Vultures trilogy never arrived until this week. On August 3, 2024, Kanye and Ty released Vultures 2 on DPS (Digital Service Provider) platforms just hours after dropping Slide and livestreamed the full project on YouTube.
Neither Ye nor Ty has publicly shared any statements at the time of this writing.
