"He would have been right on the stage too"- Tupac fans react as Kendrick Lamar pays homage to the late icon at his Pop Out concert

Kendrick Lamar left fans in awe after performing at his The Pop Out- Ken & Friends Concert on Wednesday, June 19. Not only did followers thoroughly enjoy watching him sing his latest tracks, but they were also pleased to see him pay homage to Tupac Shakur. Many took to the internet to express their happiness over the same.

YouTuber @itsavibe went viral on X after revealing that Kendrick Lamar’s concert outfit had an unexpected story behind it. He shared that the Compton rapper paid tribute to Tupac by wearing a red baseball cap, a red sweatshirt, a pair of loose jeans, and a white t-shirt.

The outfit bore resemblance to Tupac’s 1994 The Source Awards outfit which has since become an iconic moment in pop culture.

Not only did Kendrick Lamar wear an outfit similar to Tupac’s, the former also made changes to his Euphoria song to pay tribute to him. In the Drake diss song, Kendrick rapped at the concert:

“Give me Tupac’s ring back and I might give you a little respect.”

Internet users were incredibly pleased to see Kendrick pay respect to 2Pac. A few reactions online read:

“Even his fit is a entendre,” an X user said.
“Kendrick in the Tupac attire while performing Not Like Us he’s so unhinged and don’t gaf,” another netizen said.
“Tupac would be proud,” another platform user said.

At the time of writing this article, Kendrick Lamar had not further commented on paying tribute to Tupac during the concert. Meanwhile, netizens continued to express joy at the latter being mentioned during the concert. Other tweets read:

“Kendrick about to bring out Tupac and drake’s father when he plays not like us for the sixth time,” an X user said.
“Kendrick united the bloods, the crips, 3 generations of LA rappers, The krumpin clown, the Justice League, the Avengers, fixed my parents marriage, brought Tupac back to life and he got harriet tubman throwing a*s from the afterlife,” another internet user stated.
“I wish Tupac was alive to see this,” another platform user said.

Tupac was quick to trend on X following Kendrick Lamar’s performance. Other reactions read:

“Tupac would be so proud on God,” a netizen said.
“I know Tupac wanted to come outside so bad,” another internet user said.
“Kendrick definitely had his Tupac moment today,” another platform user said.

Kendrick Lamar has shared his love for Tupac in the past as well

K. Dot has always praised Tupac and called him his idol throughout his music career. He paid tribute to the latter in his To Pimp a Butterfly album as well in 2015. Speaking about Tupac, Kendrick Lamar also penned down in a tribute:

“I was 8 yrs old when I first saw you. I couldn’t describe how I felt at that moment. So many emotions. Full of excitement. Full of joy and eagerness. 20 yrs later I understand what that feeling was. Inspired.”

Kendrick also changed the lyrics in his Euphoria track to include Tupac during his most recent performance. The changed lyric is in reference to Drake confirming that he bought Tupac’s ring for one million dollars in Travis Scott’s Meltdown song. Drizzy crooned:

“I pull out a million to stare at this s**t.”

Kendrick Lamar went on to battle with Drake after the latter disrespected Tupac. Kendrick sang in Not Like Us:

“You think the Bay gon’ let you disrespect Pac, ni*ga?”

Kendrick’s recent performance also made headlines for music legends like Mustard, YG, Remble, Tyler the Creator, and Dr. Dre among others making appearances.
