Former US President Donald Trump recently shared his opinion on rapper Kanye West during a live stream interview with Adin Ross on August 4, 2024. Ye's name came up when Ross asked Trump to share his views on certain celebrities.

Speaking about West, the Republican presidential nominee mentioned that he believes the rapper has a "good heart" but is "very complicated." Trump said:

"He’s very complicated. He’s a really nice guy, but he can get himself into trouble and get some other people, but you know. He’s got a good heart, he does. But he’s complicated."

Kanye West has allegedly shared a friendly relationship with Donald Trump over the years. In the 2016 Presidential elections, the rapper famously endorsed Trump for President.

During his tenure in 2018, Ye was invited to the White House when he sported a red MAGA (Make America Great Again) cap to show his support for the Republican nominee.

However, in 2020, West claimed that he no longer endorsed Donald Trump.

Kanye West endorsed Donald Trump as President in the 2016 US Presidential Elections

In 2016, Kanye West went on record to claim he would have voted for Trump in the presidential elections if he were to cast a vote. In a San Jose concert in 2016, West spoke at length about his political views for around 25 minutes and publicly endorsed the former US President.

“[Voting for Trump] don’t mean that I don’t think that black lives matter; that don’t mean I don’t believe in women’s rights; that don’t mean that I don’t believe in gay marriage, that don’t mean I don’t believe in these things because that was the guy I would’ve voted for. If I would’ve voted, I would’ve voted for Trump," West said.

Later in the same year, Kanye West paid a visit to Donald Trump at the Trump Towers. The rapper wrote on X that he met with the Republican nominee to discuss "multicultural issues".

The rapper added that he felt it was “important to have a direct line of communication with our future President" if they really want things to change.

Trump won the 2016 Presidential elections. During his tenure in April 2018, Ye once again took to X to share that he loved Trump. He mentioned that he loves Donald Trump while speaking to Hot 97 host Ebro Darden.

The former President responded to Kanye West on the platform, thanking him for his support.

In an interview with Charmalagne The God in 2018, West once again remained vocal about his support for Donald Trump. As per CTG, the interview with the rapper took place a month before it was released in May 2018. He said:

“When he was running, it’s like I felt something. The fact that he won, it proves something. It proves that anything is possible in America. Donald Trump can be president of America."

Kanye West added that the fact that Donald Trump was "able to do it" by becoming President of the United States, proved that the "nonconventional" could have happened.

He spoke of his own desire to run for President and how many made jokes and memes out of his wish.

In a Saturday Night Live appearance in September 2018, Kanye West famously donned the red MAGA hat. In the following month, he was invited to the White House where the rapper delivered a 10-minute long speech.

In his speech at The Oval at White House, Kanye West revealed that donning the MAGA hat made him feel like a "Superman."

“It was something about when I put this hat on that made me feel like Superman. You made a Superman — that’s my favorite superhero — you made a Superman cape," West said.

In 2020, Ye launched his presidential campaign alongside Trump and current President Joe Biden. As per HuffPost, the rapper's multi-million dollar worth campaign was funded by the rapper himself.

In a major interview with Forbes following his announcement to run for President in 2020, Kanye West claimed he no longer supported Trump and had taken off the red MAGA hat. In the same interview, the rapper claimed Trump's administration looked like a "big mess" to him.

Kanye lost miserably in the elections with only 60,000 votes while Democrat nominee Joe Biden came to power. After his defeat, Trump criticized Kanye, claiming that he had "loony tendencies" in a talk with Mollie Hemingway.

However, in 2022, Ye was spotted having dinner with the former President.

Earlier this year in July, Trump's ex-communication director Alyssa Farah Griffin revealed that the former President once wanted to invite Kanye West to do a church service in the White House to "unify the country." She said:

“This is going to be dark. To be honest, one day he wanted to have Kanye West come and do a church service on the White House lawn to ‘unify the country,’ and I can think of few things less unifying than that. We were like, ‘Not the time or place, sir.’”

Donald Trump is currently running for President as the Republican nominee for the upcoming 2024 Presidential elections.
