Wiz Khalifa appeared on the Club Shay Shay podcast on Wednesday, December 11, to share his views on the music industry, including Drake’s recent legal petition against Universal Music Group. Khalifa seemingly opined that Drizzy would take a financial win wherever he could. The former also discussed how rappers felt about each other at the moment.
For those uninitiated, the One Dance crooner alleged that the music label, to which both he and Kendrick Lamar are signed, was artificially boosting the popularity of K. Dot’s Not Like Us Drizzy-diss track. While discussing the same, Wiz Khalifa said at the 31-minute mark of the episode:
“‘Bout time. I’m tired of n**gas acting like they’re cool with each other. Just speak how you really feel bro… Naw, it sounds like a Drake move to me.”
Khalifa then opined that he not only sees Drizzy as a musician but also as a “businessman.” He said:
“Well, he’s [Drake] a musician and a businessman in my eyes. So it’s like, if he’s not in the public eye winning musically, he’s going to get a win wherever he can. I mean it’s a smart thing to do, in my opinion. They’re playing it exactly how they’re supposed to.”
It's worth noting that Drake has not sued UMG but filed a pre-action petition that can lead to a lawsuit.
“I don’t think none of them n***as like each other”- Wiz Khalifa discusses the rap scene on the Club Shay Shay podcast
When Wiz Khalifa was asked whether he believed that the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake was orchestrated, the On My Level artist stated that he did not believe so.
“No, I don’t think them n***as f**k with each other at all. I don’t think none of them n***as like each other,” Khalifa said.
Wiz Khalifa then shared that seemingly the secrets and associations within the music industry were all coming out. While stating how relationships between rappers work in the industry, Wiz Khalifa said:
“It's just how the industry is and all of that's coming to an end now, and it's all spilling out, and you got you're getting to see it. But this is also like wrestling as well, so the same people who are arguing can be like cool instantly. So it's like, don't get too caught up on the animosity part. Not them, but, in general, but people will be hugging later.”
Inside Drake’s legal petition against UMG
Two legal action petitions have been launched by Drake against Universal Music Group and Spotify alleging that the two artificially inflated interest in Not Like Us. Drake’s Frozen Moments LLC. claimed that UMG used various tactics to “saturate the streaming services and airwaves” to make the song popular, including the use of Apple’s Siri voice assistant.
The 6God’s second legal action filing was launched against UMG in Texas. In the same, the singer requested information from key players to launch a lawsuit in the future. This comes after Drizzy’s attorney claimed that UMG was aware of Not Like Us “falsely” accusing him of p*dophilia, yet they distributed the track anyway.
UMG has since released a statement denying claims of them using artificial tactics to boost the streams of Not Like Us.
Followers now await an update on the legal filings. Kendrick Lamar himself had not publicly addressed the legal action at the time of writing this article.
