The ongoing YSL RICO case involving rapper Young Thug and 5 other defendants continued with the questioning of Kenneth Copeland, aka Lil Woody, on August 26, 2024. During his testimony, Lil Woody confessed to making up fictional people like “Lil Mike” and "Quez" to get the heat off his back.
During the trial on Monday, the prosecutor cross-questioning Copeland explained to the court that the two lead detectives on the case had never heard either name mentioned by the witness. He then asked Copeland if he had been making up people, to which he replied yes.
"You invented those people to take the heat off of you and put it on fictional character," the prosecutor concluded.
A clip of this questioning circulated on social media and was met with mixed reactions. One person accused Lil Woody of being a snitch, tweeting:
Some found the humor in the situation, calling Lil Woody a "GOAT witness."
"Woody is the GOAT witness….just not for the prosecution," one person tweeted.
"CIA can’t create a double agent the quality of Woody," another person added.
"Next time the hubs ask me what this purchase is and who bought it imma say I don't know what that is Quez did it," someone else added.
"Lil Mike and Quez just got scratched off the unindicted co-conspirators list," another user added.
Others marveled at the lies Lil Woody told during his testimony, wondering how the prosecutor was unaware of his lies.
"As a chief prosecutor, how do you not know Woody is lying?! I mean I could even tell Lil Mike was a fake person, when Woody responded to the detective “you don’t know who that is?”" one person said.
"This is the most “ik you fckin lyin” trial I’ve ever seen in my life," another person added.
"This is better than "Comedy Hour" on BET. Every time I want to say to myself you can't make this sh*t up, someone gets on the stand and says "Yeah, I made that sh*t up."" another user commented.
"I immediately thought the same thing. Even though Woody is always saying he lied, it's like this was too far. LOL," someone else wrote.
Lil Woody is treated as a hostile witness at the trial
The ongoing YSL RICO case earned the title of the longest trial in Georgia, with no end in sight. The trial, currently presided over by Judge Paige Reese Whitaker at Fulton County Courthouse, began on November 27, 2023.
Since the beginning of the trial, YSL affiliate Lil Woody was named one of the star witnesses. However, his recent behavior at the trial saw him being treated as a hostile witness.
Lil Woody came under fire on social media for his rants in the courthouse and for refusing to answer questions put forth by the prosecutors, pleading the Fifth Amendment. Following this, he was arrested for contempt of court on June 7, 2024.
In his testimony on August 12, Lil Woody added he was committed to telling the truth, saying:
"It may seem like I'm trying to help Thug out. I'm not trying to help him out. I don't care nothing about him or what he got going on. I care about the truth. The truth was, I was going through a phase in my life, and I have put all the blame on him. I don't know what he did. I don't know what he got going on. But y'all got me on this stand, and I'm telling the God-honest truth."
The YSL RICO case saw the prosecutors arguing that Young Slime Life was a street gang responsible for racketeering and other charges, including murder. However, the defense maintains that YSL stands for Young Stoner Life and is nothing more than a record label founded by Young Thug.
