Victoria Monét made headlines recently when she shared Father's Day moments on her official X page on June 17, 2024, where she added a photo of hugging her father. She revealed that it was the first time the duo spent the occasion together and called it a "real blessing."
This led to another situation where an anonymous woman, identified as Zhanae, claimed on social media that Monét's father was also her father.
Zhanae, who retweeted Monét's post on June 26, 2024, revealed that she hasn't seen Monét's father in about 20 years and expressed shock at discovering Victoria Monét is her "half sister."
She continued:
"I'm 23 and haven't seen him 20 years of my life…and he's never bothered to reach out to me."
Zhanae shared another post, criticizing that Anthony spent his Father's Day with someone else and she is not willing to get in touch with him after so many years. She replied to a comment where a user wrote that her response "did not come from a good place at all." She stated:
"I'm not even gone to do it to you cause my good ppl already on you .. but first of all I'm not ruining any moment if you watch my tiktok video u will hear me say I'm happy for her I'm glad she got a chance to heal because I never did."
Victoria Monét has opened up about her parents on various occasions in the past
The Atlanta, Georgia native's social media post on Father's Day was well-received by her fans. But this is not the first time when the singer has expressed love towards her parents. Victoria's mother L'Tanya Chestand Cubit had once appeared in the music video of her song, On My Mama.
Victoria Monét even recalled her experience working with her mother when she spoke to Vulture magazine this year. She said:
"I sat her in my glam chair so my team could spoil her and get her hair and makeup and nails done. Then she got on set and was like, 'So, what do you need? I don't know what to do.' I was like, 'Just be you, just dance!'"
Furthermore, Victoria Monét appeared on the podcast Way Up last year, saying that she met her father when she was in her 20s and found that she has a sister. She even addressed the time when she met her sister, revealing that the latter was surprised.
Back in March this year, L'Tanya appeared on the stage of Billboard's Women in Music Awards, where she first introduced herself. She then referred to Monét by recalling her childhood, saying that Victoria was "too shy" to tell her teacher that she could not find a seat. L'Tanya continued:
"Baby girl, not only today do you have a seat at the table, but it's front and center as you're inspiring young ladies to find their voice in music."
Also known as Victoria Monét McCants, her debut album, Jaguar II, came out on August 25, 2023. The project received positive feedback and had 11 singles in the soundtrack. It also won two Grammy Awards and was added to the list of best albums chosen by different publications.
