Joe Budden (aka Joseph Anthony Budden II) slammed Drake on the latest episode of The Joe Budden Podcast amid his recent legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG). On November 25, the Canadian rapper sued UMG for allegedly partnering with Apple and Spotify and inflating the streaming numbers of Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us using illegal methods.
According to a report by Billboard, at a Manhattan court on November 25, Drake's Frozen Moments LLC accused UMG of allegedly using artificial online devices like bots and payolas to inflate the song's popularity. Notably, Universal Music Group is responsible for distributing both artists' recordings.
In episode 779 of The Joe Budden Podcast, the rapper and broadcaster lambasted Drake, calling him selfish and manipulative.
"[Drake] is a selfish, lying, manipulative sack of s*it who has made enemies for fifteen years, and now we are here at the f**king boiling point. You have been behind the scenes being the biggest sack of s*it you could possibly be," he said on the podcast.
He continued slamming the Canadian rapper for allegedly being with other women, saying people turn a blind eye because of his immense connections in the industry. According to Joe Budden, everyone in the industry allegedly hated Drizzy, especially some high-profile billionaires with immense reach in the industry.
"The blind eye days are done. I don't wanna hear that s*it now," he continued.
In a July 1 appearance on the Hynaken and Es$o podcast BagFuel, Joe Budden shared his take on the Kendrick Lamar and Drizzy feud. Referring to Drizzy as a 'colonizer,' he said:
“Culture is where Kendrick was shifting his conversation: How do you dress? Who’s your barber? Are you a good dad? Can you dance? Your slaps? What’s your hood? Did you have a nickname growing up? Sh*t like that is what Kendrick was leaning into. Those people, I believe, created hip-hop,” Budden said.
However, he also mentioned that he had never been with the two for long enough to make an informed analysis of the situation.
The feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar explained
Not Like Us was one of the major chart-toppers coming out of the infamous beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. The diss track feud was reportedly going on for years and peaked in the middle of 2024.
Their beef in earnest started in 2013 when Lamar fired shots at Drizzy in Big Sean's song Control. However, the former declared that the diss was a part of friendly competition. Fast forward to 2024, the K Dot released Like That in response to J. Cole's First Person Shooter. In the song, the Compton rapper fired shots at Drake and J. Cole, rekindling the longstanding feud.
In response, Drizzy released Push Ups and Taylor Made Freestyle in April 2024, throwing several shots at Kendrick Lamar. However, he had to take down Taylor Made Freestyle after Tupac Shakur's estate filed a copyright claim against the rapper. Lamar responded by dropping Euphoria and 6.16 in LA.
However, the feud reached its peak when Drake dropped Family Matters on May 3, accusing Lamar of alleged domestic violence and being estranged from his family. An hour later, K Dot released Meet the Grahams. In the track, he launched serious accusations against the Canadian rapper, including alleging that he fathers a secret child.
Lamar followed it up with Not Like Us a day later. The song elaborated on the claims made in Meet the Grahams and became one of the most lucrative works of Kendrick Lamar that came out of the feud. Drizzy, in response, released The Heart Part 6, claiming that his team had wrongly fed the information to Kendrick Lamar. The rapper denied the accusations thrown at him by K Dot in his track.
