Torence Ivy Hatch Jr., who goes by the stage name Boosie Badazz, is asking for a presidential pardon "from whoever wins" the election this November. The rapper took to his X on Sunday, September 1, 2024, to explain his recent run-in with the law.
"MY CASE GOT DISMISSED FOR A RULING THAT WAS MADE N THE 9th CIRCUIT COURT .2 WEEKS LATER THE RULING GETS VACATED.SMH SOON AS I CELEBRATE THE LAW IS VACATED GTFOH I GOT SOME POWERFUL PEOPLE WHO HATE ME WITH EVERY BONE N THEY BODY," he tweeted.
"I WAS SENT TO PRISON FOR 10 YEARS FOR 3rd MARIJUANA. FOR BEING A USER LOL NO REHAB ,NO PROBATION SENT STRAIGHT TO PRISON .AT THIS POINT I NEED A PARDEN FROM WHOEVER WINS."
Last year, federal agents arrested the Baton Rouge-born rapper over multiple gun-related charges (interestingly, at the time of his arrest, the rapper had just had a gun case dismissed). In July 2024, a federal judge dismissed the case, much to his delight. However, less than two weeks later, he was indicted on the same charges.
As news of the Set It Off hitmaker's tweet spread, internet users were quick to react. Under @theshaderoom's Instagram post of the rapper's tweet, one person commented:
Many expressed exasperation at the rapper's antics; one even joked that Boosie fighting a Fed case is a guarantee in life. Here are some comments on @theshaderoom's post on Instagram about the X post:
Some came to his defense, stating the charges were wrong and that he needs to be freed.
Prosecutors doubled down on the charges against Boosie, slapping an additional charge of possessing a firearm while abusing a controlled substance
In July 2023, federal officers arrested Boosie Badazz, charging him with possession of a firearm and transporting firearms across highways. At the time, he told a courtroom reporter:
"This situation made me see who was down with me and who wasn’t. Ninety percent of people thought I was going to prison, but God had a different plan."
Following the case's dismissal, the elated rapper took to his social media to express his gratitude to everyone who supported him and believed in him. The Louisiana native's celebration was short-lived as federal authorities re-indicted him.
Per HipHopX, citing the indictment, prosecutors doubled down on the allegations against Boosie. They hoped to seize the rapper's "all firearms and ammunition" involved in the case. He also faces a charge of possessing a firearm while dealing with abuse of a controlled substance in addition to the previous charge(s).
This is not the first time the rapper has faced legal trouble with drug and gun-related charges. He was arrested in October 2008 for possessing marijuana and a Glock. In July 2010, he was arrested for the murder of Terry Boyd. However, the jury came to a unanimous not-guilty verdict.
Cops detained the rapper in 2022, and he was cited with possession of marijuana. They again arrested him in May 2023 for unlawful firearm possession.
If convicted, Boosie faces up to 10 years in jail.
