Lil Wayne made his way into the headlines after he sang the lyrics from Kendrick’s hit song, Not Like Us, while proudly holding the OVO owl pendant. The incident took place during Wayne’s performance in Zouk Nightclub on July 13, 2024.

The clips floating on social media show the rapper singing bars from Kendrick's song while his successful collaboration with Drake, The Motto from 2011 played in the background. The viral video of Lil Wayne AKA Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. then sparked a discussion amongst the social media users, as many thought that the rapper was siding with Drake, and dissed Kendrick through his actions.

As an X user @hiiipowers uploaded the video, one user commented:

“That is not what he said. He saying they don’t like us.”

Others also commented and stated how Kendrick’s fans are taking offense to Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.'s video:

“KDOT fans are upset because they see this as a shot,” wrote a social media user on the post.
“I speak for Kendrick fans when I say we do not care,” commented another X user.
“When’s the last time Wayne dropped a good album? C5 was not a good album. Kendrick had by far the best verse on the album too,” said another Kendrick fan bashing Lil Wayne.

Many other X users also commented on the post stating how Wayne is clearly siding with Drake, as the two are “family.”

“Wayne and drake will never fall out they are family,” mentioned an internet user
“Awwww, look at big brother coming to help out lil bro,” said another netizen

Drake and Lil Wayne collaborated in 2011 for the song The Motto

As Lil Wayne’s video wearing the OVO pendant, and singing Kendrick’s diss track for Champagne Papi went viral, many social media users pointed out that Drake and Lil Wayne go way back, as the duo collaborated in 2011 for The Motto, which was a massive success amongst the masses.

Drake released his song, The Motto, featuring Lil Wayne in October 2011. The song was instantly a hit amongst Drake fans, as it topped many charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 chart in various countries like Canada, the USA, Belgium, Australia, the United Kingdom, etc. The song also won many awards and nominations, including one at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Furthermore, this is not the first time that Wayne has allegedly sided with Drizzy, as a recent clip posted on X shows Dwayne Michael picking his five favorites, amongst which, he also names Drake. He said:

“My Top 5 rappers of all time are JAY-Z, Missy Elliott, Eminem, ummm… The Notorious B.I.G. — oh, and this is no specific order right here — and Drizzy.”

While many netizens continue to comment on what they think about Wayne’s video floating on the internet, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Wayne have not yet responded to the comments of the masses, and have kept their lips tight on the issue.
