Nicki Minaj's ex-boyfriend, Safaree Samuels, was recently invited to the All Things Keyshia Ka'oir podcast, where he denied being Minaj's ghostwriter.

In the episode that went live on Wednesday, December 11, Samuels revealed that his contributions to the Bang Bang rapper's music were limited to cameo appearances and ad-libs. He added:

“She is far more capable to do her own music, which she has and always done. If anything, I was a hype man, that cheerleader [who was supporting her].”

A tweet about Samuel's statement on the podcast has since gone viral on X, amassing over 345K views, 12K likes, and 1.4K re-shares. Netizens are reacting to it, speculating that Safaree still loves the Side to Side rapper. One X user commented:

"He still loves Nicki"

Some netizens complimented Safaree Samuels for "keeping it real" about Nicki's rapping and songwriting skills.

"everyone loves a good rumor, but sounds like safaree's just keeping it real about nicki's skills," commented an X user.
"Well you are the one who started these allegations in the first place. This woman will get her respect at the end of the day," posted another.
"We already knew he wasn’t ghostwriting shit only the idiots who like discrediting her thought that," added a third user.

Meanwhile, other netizens pointed out that the "enemies" of Nicki Minaj were "falling like dominoes" this year.

"Nicki can be a lot of things but to accuse her of using a ghostwriter when her mixtape days exist like let's bffr," replied a fourth one.
"You know what’s the most amazing thing? The fact that the year is almost over but it seems as if Nicki has been getting a lot of vindication. Like her enemies are literally falling like dominoes. One by one, day by day," commented a fifth one.
"Everybody tb how he wrote for her but can’t get himself a hit Maybe he good cosplaying a toxic crazy btch like she is a gangsta ?? Idk lol," wrote a sixth user.

Nicki Minaj and Samuels started dating in 2000 and split up in 2014, making it the longest relationship the Side to Side rapper has had.

Samuels said the pressure of being in the public eye led to his split with Nicki Minaj

In addition to calling himself Nicki Minaj's "hype man," Safaree Samuels also discussed his relationship with the Only rapper on the podcast. Samuels admitted that being in the public eye constantly took a toll on him while they were dating, eventually leading to their split. Safaree added:

"I probably wasn’t happy within myself. She is one of the biggest stars in the face of this earth, and everything with her within her life was changing. It was just a lot of changes."

As reported by Spin, Nicki and Safaree kept their relationship away from the public eye. The first hint of it dropped with the release of Nicki Minaj's third studio album, The Pinkprint, in 2014. Coincidentally, they also broke up that year.

In the last week of November 2024, Nicki Minaj reissued an expanded version of The Pinkprint on the occasion of its 10th anniversary. In addition to the 16 tracks dropped in the original version, the reissued album also contains three unreleased songs, as reported by NME.

These include Turn Ya Cap Back featuring Swae Lee, It's Okay featuring David Guetta, and Arctic Tundra starring the late rapper Juice WRLD.

On December 9, Forbes reported that the reissue of Nicki Minaj's third album improved its sales by 62,000%, with the album topping four Billboard charts on its return. The media outlet noted that more than 10,000 copies of The Pinkprint were sold in the US last week, a stark contrast to its sales of fewer than 20 copies a decade ago.
