Rapper Lil Yachty recently said that he regretted talking about the rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar and his earlier comments on the former. On the July 31 episode of Andrew Schulz's podcast Flagrant, Yachty further stated that he started to feel quite uneasy being caught in the crossfire between the two.
He said,
“I just wish I had never spoken on it. I respect both of them immensely. It was never my place to weigh in.”
He also acknowledged the fight, saying,
“Drake ain’t lose nothing from this, he still at the top dropping hits, running the game.”
Yachty tried to clarify that although Kendrick Lamar's calculated actions were admirable, Drake's reputation and power remained unaffected.
This podcast and the apology came after his May 16 episode of his own podcast, A Safe Place, where he chose to side with Lamar, amidst his rap battle with Drake. He had said,
“Drake dropped great records. But also, let’s be fair, Drake was deemed a loser in this battle before it started. Because people don’t like him and haven’t, and he’s won for a very long time.”
Lil Yachty apologized for everything he said previously about Drake-Lamar rap feud
During his appearance on Andrew Schulz's Flagrant on Wednesday, July 31, Lil Yachty answered questions on the beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
He continued by claiming that he regretted declaring that Drake was already considered the loser against Lamar. He went on to say during his podcast appearance that he wished he had never talked about it.
Yachty then expressed his gratitude to the two artists, and made it clear that he never intended to choose sides. He went on to say that he greatly respected them both and that it was never his place to comment or weigh in.
Unlike the May 16 episode of the podcast, where he deemed Drake a “loser”, here he said that Drake continued to be a major singer in the music business. He added that Drake was still at the top, dominating the game and dropping hits, so he didn't lose anything.
Yachty then mentioned the conversation he had with Drake in which he was honest enough to say that neither of the musicians felt like victors or losers. Then he shared,
“I told Drake, I don’t think either of you won or lost. You both continue to make incredible music and have massive followings.”
The rapper then asserted that the incident involving his liking of a tweet alleging that Lamar had cheated on his wife was an accident. Lil Yachty also addressed the OVO Sound founder's demeanor throughout the altercation. He then praised Drake's carefree demeanor, saying,
“He really didn’t give a f*ck. He was unfazed. I respect it a lot and I talked to him. That sh*t didn’t bother him.”
Lil Yachty then continued,
“I never saw him down ever. I never saw kicking his f*cking foot [or] holding his head down. [It got] to a point where I just stopped talking to him about it because I felt like I was the one bringing him the negativity.”
Lil Yachty covered a variety of topics in the May 16 episode of the podcast A Safe Place, including the dispute between Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
Lil Yachty then went on to claim that he thought Kendrick had a lot more hate, which was evident in his songs. He acknowledged that despite Drake's amazing discography, people don't like him and never have, so even before the fight began, he was already considered the loser.
