Puerto Rican artist, Nicky Jam, who was once seen endorsing former President, Trump has declared that he no longer supports the candidate in the upcoming US Presidential elections.

As per CNN, Nicky Jam changed his decision after Tony Hinchcliffe, the popular comedian appeared at a rally in New York’s Madison Square Garden on October 27, and referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”

Speaking to his 43 million followers, Jam explained that he initially supported Trump as he thought that it "was what’s best for the economy in the United States, where a lot of Latinos live." In the video uploaded on October 30, 2024, Nicky elaborated:

"A lot of immigrants that are suffering over the state of the economy. Trump being a businessman, I felt it was the right move. I never in his life thought that just a short time later, a comedian would appear to criticize and talk badly about my Puerto Rico."

As soon as the news about Nicky Jam withdrawing his endorsement made its way on social media, several netizens started reacting to the same. Many also talked about how Trump mistakenly referred to Nicky as a girl, as he introduced him to the audience at his rally in Los Angeles.

As an X user, @Yashar shared the video, a netizen responded and said:

“He didn't after Trump called him a girl?”

Furthermore, others also reacted and said:

“He didn't care until it happened to him,” stated one social media user.
“Didn’t Trump call him a woman?” added another.
“So the fact that Trump thought he was a woman wasn’t enough to do it?” wrote another netizen.

Others also called out him and commented:

“So when it affects him he has morals,” exclaimed another.
“So it was only cool as long as it was directed at other groups? Lol. Ok,” said another internet user.

Nicky Jam wore a “Make America Great Again” cap during the rally in Las Vegas

Nicky Jam was seen last month on the stage with Trump at a rally in Las Vegas. During his appearance, he donned a “Make America Great Again” cap, as he spoke in favor of the former President.

"People that come from where I come from, they don’t meet the president. So, I’m lucky. We need you. We need you back, right? We need you to be the president," he said.

Nicky Jam was among the several other reggaeton stars, who endorsed Trump, however, many of them also withdrew their support, after Tony Hinchcliffe passed the racist comment.

As Trump continues to face the consequences, Hinchcliffe took to X on October 28, 2024, and posted a follow-up tweet claiming that he just said it out of a joke. He said:

“These people have no sense of humour. Wild that a vice presidential candidate would take time out of his “busy schedule” to analyze a joke taken out of context to make it seem racist. I love Puerto Rico and vacation there. I made fun of everyone…watch the whole set. I’m a comedian Tim…might be time to change your tampon.”

For the unversed, the US Presidential elections will be held on November 5, 2024. On this day, the citizens of the country will go out and vote for their desired candidate in order to elect them as the next President of the United States of America.
