A video showing a pastor making a "No Diddy" joke during a sermon has been making rounds online since Thursday, October 17, 2024. The clip features a church service at Oakwood University, a historically black Seventh-day Adventist university in Huntsville, Alabama, where a pastor is preaching abstinence before marriage.

"I know you are trying to make a decision. Even while you are here, you may have to say 'No Diddy' to an Oakwood student. I'm just being real. You have to make an individual decision about your life and what you are going to do," said the pastor.

The pastor added:

"When I met my wife, I vowed and didn't kiss her one time... I didn't even kiss my wife until I led her to the altar and without pre-kissing I've been married 40 years."

In recent months the phrase "No Diddy" has become synonymous with "no homo" or "pause." These terms are said to deny queer identity or intention. According to a definition in Urban Dictionary "no homo" is "something you say after you say something that might be interpreted as 'gay'."

As the pastor's sermon video went viral, netizens were quick to react.

"He used that totally wrong!!!!!," an Instagram user wrote.

Rapper Quilly popularized the term "no Diddy" after he used it several times during his interview with DJ Akademiks in March 2024

In recent months, the term "No Diddy" has become a popular slag. Since the slew of lawsuits against Sean "Diddy" Combs, the phrase has replaced another colloquial term, "no homo," made popular in the 1990s as a way to deny any insinuation of homos*xuality.

Reportedly the slang "No Diddy" references the several allegations levied against the music mogul since last November accusing him of r*pe and violence. Some of these claims included him abusing men.

According to a March 2024 report by XXL Magazine, the slag was popularized by rapper Quilly. In his interview with DJ Akademicks (March 19 episode) for the latter's podcast Off The Record, Quilly frequently used the phrase.

A few days after this interview, producer BNXY used the slang in an X post, which went viral.

Since then, it gained traction, with rapper Gucci Mane even dropping a track titled TakeDat (No Diddy) a month later.

It is to be noted that in light of accusations against Combs, the phrase has been criticized as it takes the focus away from the seriousness of the alleged crimes. Additionally, it is also slammed for its implication that homos*xuality is something to be disavowed.

Combs's troubles began last year after his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, sued the rapper last November, alleging s*xual abuse and violence. While her lawsuit was settled in a day, several others came forward with similar claims.

This included producer Rodney "Lil Rod" Jones, who alleged that Diddy s*xually harassed, assaulted, and groomed him for a year. He filed the lawsuit in February 2024.

The lawsuits also prompted a federal s*x trafficking investigation into the rapper that saw his homes in Los Angeles and Miami being raided. The investigation led to Diddy's arrest in September on charges of s*x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in pr*ostitution.

Diddy had denied all allegations levied against him. He is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The rapper's trial is set to begin next May.
