Internet personality DJ Akademiks recently reacted to Suki Baby, who appeared on the cover of Drake and 21 Savage's album Her Loss, praising Kendrick Lamar's album GNX. In his Twitch livestream, Akademiks said:
"I don't really give a damn that she really did this, but it does look bad on Drake's behalf... You (Drizzy) gotta make better moves in having genuine relationships that you're also platforming because of these moments."
Akademiks' comments were a response to Suki saying GNX was "for the world" and "not just directed at" Drake.
As DJ Akademiks' remarks went viral, internet users were quick to react. One called out the internet personality for wanting to be on Drizzy's album cover:
Many criticized Akademiks for suggesting that Suki shouldn't listen to other artists if she appeared on Drake's album art. Here are some comments seen under @Chatn***a101's post on X:
"Why can’t she like Kendrick? That album cover shouldn’t hold her hostage wtf is wrong with people?" one wondered.
"you think people can't like music without some ulterior motive?," another remarked.
"So Ak is mad because someone else has a different opinion than him?" a user added.
Others claimed that Suki was not a loyal person:
"It’s called loyalty mf that’s why these mf today just don’t have it," a fan commented.
"Drake gave her the biggest break in her career what has Kendrick Lamar done for her," another reacted.
“Self proclaimed model” is an insane level of hating," a user noted.
"We haven't seen something like that in a very long time"— Suki Baby about the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar rap feud
During a recent Twitch livestream with her followers, Suki Baby critiqued that Kendrick Lamar's recent album was more than a response to his detractors, including Drake.
She was referencing Drizzy and Lamar's rap beef earlier this year, which saw both artists dropping diss tracks one after another, targeting the other's career and personal life. This included Drake's Family Matters, Taylor Made Freestyle, and K. Dot's Meet the Grahams and Not Like Us. Many believe Not Like Us won Kendrick Lamar the feud. Suki remarked:
"This album Kendrick put out—it’s for the world. We can go 2-3 songs back and he’s not even talking about bro (Drake)," she continued, "This is just his way of putting out to the world, 'Nobody is f**king playing with me.' Its not just directed at (Drizzy).
"We love a good rap battle. We haven't seen something like that in a very long time — especially because traditionalism is not a thing anymore."
After hearing Suki Baby's comments, DJ Akademiks (in his separate Twitch livestream) expressed his exasperation at Drake for picking "random weirdos" who aren't "loyal" for his album cover. He also stated that Suki was wrong in suggesting that GNX is not an "embodiment" of his feud with Drizzy.
Referencing Drake's rap beef with Meek Mill in 2016 that he claimed ended in the "obliteration" of Meek, he remarked:
"That was the embodiment of, ‘hey, this is me on an aggressive type of timing, since y’all think y’all can play with me. Look what I did to the last dude.’ And that’s what Kendrick is on. I’m not saying he is speaking about Drake in every line. But the energy created by the battle is still on this album."
He added that the "backdrop" for the album said, "Look what I did to that man." Akadmiks asserted that Drake needed to be careful of who he gave "alley-oops" if he wanted "loyalty" from them after his "favor (was) done."
Notably, Suki Baby didn't have a prior relationship with Drake before the Her Loss cover photo. In a 2022 interview with Complex, Suki's photographer told the publication that OVO contacted her to use one of her pictures. The pair eventually linked up during Drake's It’s All A Blur Tour show in Houston.
Kendrick Lamar dropped his sixth studio album, GNX, on Friday, November 22. The 12-track project was a surprise release, preceded by a minute-long trailer dropped just 30 minutes before its release.
Despite no other marketing, the album debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, selling 319,000 equivalent album units (as reported by Billboard on December 1). Moreover, critics praised the album for celebrating West Coast hip-hop, with Mosi Reeves of Rolling Stone calling Lamar the "GOAT of 2024."
GNX is available to stream on music streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
