Rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs' mother, Janice Combs, 84, has been hospitalized after experiencing chest pains. Per a report by TMZ, Mamma Combs was rushed to a hospital in South Florida on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, after she complained of discomfort in her chest.
Per the publication, Janice would remain under observation for a day or two before discharge. While it remains unclear what caused the pain, sources close to the troubled music mogul claim it could potentially be due to stress over her son's ongoing legal troubles.
As the news spread, many internet users remarked that it was the rapper's actions and strew of abuse allegations that were stressing her out.
Making light of the situation, a few netizens sarcastically commented that they hoped Diddy didn't hit Janice as well. Some even suggested that her hospitalization was a reaction to some big news coming out. Here are some comments seen under @theshaderoom's Instagram post:
However, the negative comments were quickly shut down, with many asking IG users not to be disrespectful. Some remarked that Janice was not responsible for her son's actions. Others wished for her speedy recovery.
Janice Combs is a single mom to both Diddy and his sister Keisha and raised them while juggling three jobs
Per NBC Philadelphia, citing a source, Diddy is at the hospital by Janice's side. Janice raised the Bad Boys Entertainment founder and his sister Keisha as a single mother. The publication elaborated that she worked three jobs while raising them and is "really present" in her children's and grandchildren's lives.
A source told NBC that stress was a factor, but the diagnosis remains unconfirmed. However, they added that Mamma Combs was "standing by her son."
The Combs family has been going through difficult times since last year, as several lawsuits accusing Diddy of sexual assault and violence have been filed against him. In addition to his legal battles, the Department of Homeland Security raided his Los Angeles and Miami homes over ongoing sex trafficking investigations.
It all began last November when the rapper was sued by his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, for sexual and domestic violence. While her lawsuit was settled the next day, several others sued the rapper, making similar accusations.
Sean Combs, for his part, denied all claims. In a now-deleted Instagram post, he slammed the allegations, saying they were made by "individuals looking for a quick payday." He added that he would fight the claims.
However, earlier this year, CNN released surveillance footage from 2016, which showed the rapper beating and dragging Cassie in a hotel's hallway (the video matches claims made in Ventura's lawsuit).
Since then, the rapper has stepped down as the CEO of his company, Revolt, and Howard University has stripped him of his honorary degree. The musician also issued a (since deleted) apology video addressing the CNN footage.
Neither Diddy nor his team have released any statements about his mother's hospitalizations.
