On September 5, 2024, Rich Homie Quan, who had often collaborated with Young Thug, reportedly died in his Atlanta home. It is unclear what caused the death of the 34-year-old rapper, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar. The Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed the death to media outlets and informed the autopsy will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024.

“On Thursday, 5 September 2024, the Fulton County Medical Examiner was notified by Grady Memorial Hospital of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday, 6 September 2024,” a statement from the coroner's office read.

People noticed that Young Thug looked sombre at the trial on September 5, which is live streamed. Many speculated if the rapper's sad disposition was due to the news of Quan's death, with one person tweeting:

Many agreed with this sentiment, sympathizing with the rapper who lost five people since his incarceration in 2022.

"This may be the 5th person he’s lost since being in there Lil Keed Trouble Takeoff his sister and now Rich Homie," one person tweeted.
"I am sure this trial has created an extraordinary level of anxiety for many parties involved and has been painful to watch. It is a sad day indeed, especially because prison prevents detained people from saying goodbye to loved ones. He should be allowed to attend the funeral if he wishes," another person added.
"Young thug has been thru so much isht,,, first Lil keed, takeoff,,,his sister and now quan??? Damn," someone else said.
"He must be aware. It’s been tough to see him so somber throughout this trial. Sad day indeed," another netizen wrote.

However, others brought up the bad blood between the two rappers well before Young Thug's trial, claiming Thug did not look like he cared about Quan's death.

"Am I the only one that doubt he cares," a user commented.
"He don’t look sad. He’s hoping they release his a**. They weren’t cool. He’s the reason ppl stoped rocking with Quan!" one person exclaimed.
"Thug literally wanted him dead lol mfs making up fake narratives just to feel better," another person wrote.

What did Lil Woody say about Quan to Young Thug?

The YSL RICO case is Georgia's longest trial, with prosecutors aiming to prove that Young Thug and five others are part of a gang involved in drugs, racketeering, and murder. The defense argues that YSL, or Young Stoner Life, is just a record label founded by Young Thug.

During his September 3 testimony, star witness Lil Woody, who was treated as hostile, made a comment about Rich Homie Quan that left Young Thug laughing in court.

The prosecution questioned Woody if Thug and Quan had problems due to the latter "bringing members of his gang to his apartment." Instead of answering, Woody directed his own question to Young Thug, asking him:

"Thug, did you have an issue with Rich Homie?"

Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan were up-and-coming artists who gained prominence after their 2014 joint mixtape Rich Gang: Tha Tour Pt. 1. However, their relationship soon soured over the years.

The two rappers took subliminal shots at each other and were involved in public arguments. In a November 2022 interview with No Jumper, Quan addressed the reason behind his feud with Thug. He said there was never any tension between them, but people around them always blew things out of proportion.

"The s**t started falling apart when we started getting booked for shows and s**t. We all started getting booked together, and ego played a big role in it. Certain people, including myself, certain people felt like they should go last, certain people wanted more money, and one of those -- I ain't gonna say too much," he said.

In October 2023, Quan was accused of snitching on Young Thug, a rumor that stemmed after the two rappers faced legal troubles in 2015 due to a raid in Thug's home. Many speculated whether Quan confided in the authorities for a lighter sentence.

However, Quan denied these rumors in an Instagram Live session in October, saying he always "stood by the principles of loyalty and integrity." He also offered a $1 million reward to anyone who had proof that he snitched.
