Julio Foolio's mother opened up on her son's death

Also known as Charles Andrew Jones II, the artist was shot dead, on June 23, 2024, at a hotel in Tampa. Notably, Foolio died on the spot, and three more people were injured and were immediately taken to the hospital. A motive behind the shooting was not revealed at the time.

An investigation was launched into the case and three suspects have been recently arrested. Julio's mother, Sandrika Mays, recalled the day of the incident in an interview with Newsweek earlier this month. She revealed at the time:

"I got a call at 4 a.m. in the morning. I was already [awake] because I had already talked to him maybe 12 a.m., 1 a.m. when he texted. And when I got the call from one of his close friends who told me that there was a shooting, I was like 'Okay, I got to get there. What happened? Where is that?'"

Maya said that Julio Foolio's friend told her everything was fine even though he was shot multiple times. However, as soon as Maya went to pick up Julio's aunt, another friend of Charles called her to reveal that he had died.

In another conversation with the outlet, Maya said that she always supported Julio Foolio's rapping career since the time he was around 16 years old. Maya disclosed that Julio consulted her while making important decisions and added:

"We have to understand that Charles wasn't getting shot at because he killed somebody, because he robbed somebody, because anything like that. That's not what happened. All this happened because of rapping."

The Jacksonville, Florida native released three albums in his career, starting with his debut album Life of Me in 2022. Julio Foolio then released two more albums, Final Destination and Resurrection.
