The hip-hop community received a late-year treat from Doechii, who surprised fans with an official trailer for a new sitcom-themed music video for "Denial Is A River," scheduled to air in January 2025.

On Thursday (December 28), the TDE signee shared a clip on her Instagram teasing an upcoming music video for Denial Is A River. The song is considered one of the most popular records on her third mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal, released to all streaming platforms on August 30, 2024.

The Grammy-nominated artist's trailer finds her reimagining the opening credits of Family Matters, a memorable sitcom from the 1990s. Interestingly, the backing track used in her trailer, As Days Go By, is the same record used in the credits of the ABC sitcom.

The trailer also features artists like ScHoolboy Q, SiR, Teezo Touchdown, and more. An interesting cameo was when Earl Sweatshirt appeared on the title card but was credited as “Brad Pitt”. Doechii's caption confirms the "Denial Is A River Show" will premiere on January 2, 2025.

Multiple news outlets across social media reposted the trailer, leading to high engagement from fans and the hip-hop community, with artists like SZA and Willow Smith citing their excitement in her Instagram comment section.

Many discussed the music video rollout for her fan-favorite single, Denial Is A River, with one individual hoping the visualizer was for a "real show" and not a promo or PR stunt.

More reactions followed with individuals highlighting their excitement over the oncoming release of the Denial Is A River Show.

"Looking at this lineup for Doechii's show feels like someone went through my playlist and picked out all my favorite artists - January 2nd needs to get here immediately," a fan stated.
"Now this is a rollout. Salute," said another.
"It’s literally one of the most acclaimed black sitcoms ever with one of the best famous 90’s characters in pop culture. I'm pretty sure everyone in this video alone grew up on it," a fan praised the "Family Matters" sitcom reference.

Several fans were seen highlighting the humor behind Earl Sweatshirt's cameo in the video as "Brad Pitt".

"That Brad Pitt reference too deep cut," a user claimed.
"Earl Sweatshirt being credited as Brad Pitt has me rolling," a fan cited.
"To be so early in her career and already get a cameo from Brad Pitt??? Doechii is on a generational run," said another.

From Grammy nominations to her acclaimed mixtape: Recapping Doechii's massive commercial year in hip-hop

26-year-old rapper Jaylah Hickmon, professionally known as Doechii, is one of the biggest rising stars for 2024, supported by the release of her third mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal.

Her first debut single, Girls, was released to SoundCloud over eight years ago, garnering a strong fanbase within the rap community for music heavily inspired by 90s hip-hop and R&B.

Following her mixtape's release, in August, The Swamp Princess went on to perform on The Late Night Show and at NPR's Tiny Desk, delivering highly entertaining live performances and fascinating fashion statements that captivated the hip-hop community.

"She's all about telling a story. She didn't want it to feel like a crazy costume. We both wanted it to feel natural and cool and street, but preppy. She likes exposing something that's meant to be hidden. She just thinks outside the box, and she likes being vulnerable, and she likes showing things that you're not meant to show," said Doechii's stylist Sam Woolf.

Heading into the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, Doechii was revealed as one of the most nominated artists for the year, marking her first time securing a nomination at the prestigious music award ceremony.
