Music world mourns the loss of Dario G’s Paul Spencer at 53

Paul Spencer, a beloved figure in the electronic music scene and a key member of the 90s pop group Dario G, has passed away at the age of 53 after a courageous battle with cancer. The news has saddened fans and fellow musicians alike, marking the end of an era for the influential artist known for hits such as Carnaval de Paris, Sunchyme, and Ring of Fire.

In his final Instagram post on his handle Dario G official, a resilient Spencer appeared cheerful from his hospital bed, expressing his joy at being discharged. He wrote,

"I'm Out Out! At last. Has anything of interest happened in the outside world from the past month? I know you've all been showing overwhelming support, love and strength for me."

Spencer’s recent battle with cancer was publicly known. The musician revealed in a January video that his cancer had spread to his liver and lungs. Despite these challenges, he continued to engage with fans, sharing new solo material from a hospital foyer, as reported by Birmingham Live.

Dario G, the group he co-founded, gained fame with their 1997 hit Sunchyme, which nearly topped the UK Singles Chart, and their 1998 World Cup anthem Carnaval de Paris, which reached number five at the UK Singles Chart.

Among those deeply affected by Dario G’s death is British DJ Sigala, who praised him as a “true inspiration.” Sigala, whose real name is Bruce Fielder, shared how Spencer’s advice to get checked for cancer impacted him personally.

Bruce conveyed under the instagram post that announced Paul's passing that Paul had repeatedly advised him over the past year to "Go get yourself checked," and he felt it important to relay this message to everyone, believing it was what Paul would have wanted. Bruce emphasized that health should be more of a priority and expressed that Paul would be greatly missed, sending love to his family and wishing Dario G to rest in peace.

Singer Sonique and the official Instagram page of Macmillan Cancer Support also honored Dario G's memory, with Macmillan noting his generous support through the charity single Savour the Miracle of Life.
