Well-known singer Janet Jackson recently revealed more details about her family on August 13, 2024, as she appeared on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. She disclosed that she is linked to Stevie Wonder, Tracy Chapman, and Samuel L. Jackson.
The details came out when host Scott Mills questioned her if she was somehow related to Stevie. She replied by saying that the latter was her cousin. She further stated:
"Not a lot of people know that. He's our cousin on my mother's side. So is Tracy Chapman. So is Samuel Jackson."
An official response is currently awaited from Samuel alongside Stevie and Tracy. Meanwhile, Samuel once told Wired in 2017 that he was not related to the Jackson family.
Although Janet's words have created headlines, she is currently a part of a family that is already popular around the world. Michael Jackson is also included among her siblings along with Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlo, Brandon, and Randy.
Janet Jackson recalls her experience of performing on the duet song Scream
The Will & Grace star appeared for another interview with BBC last month, where she addressed a few of her performances in her ongoing tour, Together Again. She spoke about the moment she performed Scream, a duet song featuring her brother Michael, which came out back in 1995.
Janet Jackson told BBC that she wrote the song with Michael at his apartment in New York and opened up on the experience of performing it on stage:
"So [I relive] that whole journey, listening to him sing it [and remembering] what he was going through at that time. And just me being his little sister, always by his side, and being that support system. That's always been my role."
The making of the song was previously covered in Janet Jackson's self-titled docuseries in 2022. The series also displayed a moment where Janet and Michael went to record the song and producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were also present in the footage.
Janet additionally revealed details on how the music video was shot when she spoke on the documentary. She said that while she had to film during the daytime, Michael went for shooting at night. She continued:
"His record company, they would block off his whole set so that I couldn't see what was going on. They didn't want me on set. I felt like they were trying to make it very competitive between the two of us. That really hurt me, because I felt I was there fighting the fight with him. Not to battle him."
Janet Jackson is currently busy with the Together Again tour
The Saturday Night Live star announced the Together Again tour back in December 2022. Janet Jackson posted a video through Instagram at the time, saying that she is missing everyone and is excited to perform for them.
While ticket sales started the same month, a few more shows were added to the list. The tour began in Hollywood on April 14 last year and the lineup for 2023 ended with the final show at the NRG Arena in Houston.
The tour will end on October 13, 2024, at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. It took places in places such as Paris, Brooklyn, West Palm Beach, Birmingham, and Cologne. In 2024, two shows, which were to be held at Winchester and New Orleans, were canceled.
