O’Jays vocalist Eddie Levert’s 22-year-old daughter has reportedly passed away. RnB Talk Show reported that Ryan died after battling lupus. The family had not released an official statement regarding the news at the time of this writing.

RnB Talk Show took to Instagram on December 22 to share an image of Ryan Levert, alongside a caption that read:

“Prayers to the LeVert family, Eddie LeVert youngest daughter Ryan LeVert has passed away at age 22 from “Lupus””

According to Mayo Clinic, Lupus is an autoimmune disease where one’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. One can experience inflammation in different parts of the body through the disease— commonly in the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, heart, lungs, and brain.

O’Jays’ Edward “Eddie” Levert was born on June 16, 1942, in Bessemer, Alabama. The O’Jays gained traction following the release of their debut single, Lonely Drifter, and album, Comin’ Through, in 1965.

According to IMDb, Eddie Levert is the father of five children, including his late daughter Ryan Levert.

The musician is the father of sons Gerald and Sean, who passed away in 2006 and 2008, respectively. The two were 40 and 39 years old, respectively, at the time of their passing.

Gerald passed away from accidentally overdosing while the latter died after becoming ill in the Cuyahoga County Jail according to Cleveland.com.

Prior to their passing, Sean and Gerald teamed up with Marc Gordon to launch the trio LeVert, whose song Casanova became a fan favorite back in 1987.

Speaking about his son's deaths, he said in an interview with Cleveland.com in 2011:

"I really miss them. It’s just hard. But I can’t get caught up in the fact that it wasn’t supposed to be like this, because it happened. And there was nothing I could do about it.”

Eddie Levert is also the father of daughter Kandice Brooks, whom he shares with his previous wife Martha Levert.

X user @HarrierEve9 took to the social networking site on December 22 to also share the news of Ryan’s death.

She attached a video of Eddie and Ryan appearing in an Instagram livestream, where Eddie was heard saying:

“She want to act like it’s going normal. No, it’s not normal. This is crazy.”

Ryan then said, “We got some news stuff though. You [Eddie] got some mics. The mics work, the easiest part. It’s trying to get this to more to several different platforms and Instagram want to be difficult… while all the other platforms were easy to navigate- just click that, already in… and I’m not a tech person, I pretend.”

Ryan Levert had amassed nearly 6000 followers on her Instagram account at the time of writing this article.

She frequently posted snippets from her life on her account, with her last post dating back to January, where she shared multiple images of herself donning a black floor-length gown. She also wrote in the caption:

“Happy 2024 praying for good health, more love, and more laughter.”

Ryan’s Instagram bio read that she was a “lupus fighter.” She had also created her own podcast alongside her family, The Levert Opinion. Followers now await an official statement from the Levert family.
