OTF rapper Lil Durk is one of the pioneers of the Chicago-based music subgenre called drill music. Originally named Durk Devontay Banks, the 32-year-old first found fame after releasing his mixtape series called Signed to the Streets in 2013-14. Eventually, he was signed by Def Jam Recordings and the rapper released his debut studio album Remember My Name in 2015.

Lil Durk has been nominated for the coveted Grammy four times but has won the award only once in his career. The rapper's first nomination came in 2021 for the song Laugh Now Cry Later with Drake. The song was nominated for the categories Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. In 2022, he was nominated for Album of the Year as a featured artist in Kanye West's tenth studio album, Donda.

The rapper finally won the award in 2024 for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his single All My Life, featuring J. Cole. In addition, he won the iHeartRadio Titanium Award in 2022 and the NAACP Award in 2021 for Outstanding Hip-Hop/Rap Song for Laugh Now Cry Later.

Lil Durk and his five OTF mates were arrested on Thursday, October 24 for murder-for-hire charges, according to the police records obtained by XXL. A November 12 report by Newsweek claimed that a federal grand jury has approved two new charges against the Chicago rapper in addition to the murder-for-hire of fellow rapper Quando Rondo.

The new charges reportedly include "using, carrying, and discharging firearms, including a machine gun, in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death."

According to the report by Newsweek, Lil Durk was announced as the lead defendant in a previous indictment by the new federal grand jury.

The indictment allegedly charged his former OTF members Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston in connection to the murder-for-hire of Quando Rondo which resulted in the death of his cousin Saviay'a Robinson.

According to prosecutors, the five defendants used two vehicles to stalk and plan the attempt to murder of Quando Rondo at a Los Angeles gas station on August 19, 2022.

They also claimed that the hitmen used credit cards associated with OTF and Lil Durk to book one-way flights from Chicago to San Diego on August 18, 2022. The cards were also used to book their stay at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in California. Recovered text messages between the alleged hitmen and Lil Durk reportedly claimed that the rapper implored them to not book any flights under his name.

Lil Durk allegedly flew to California with Kavon London Grant on August 18 and the latter allegedly arranged for ski masks for the hitmen to wear during the murder.

Surveillance video from the day also reportedly showed Quando Rondo and Saviay'a Robinson riding in a black Escalade on the day of the murder, and being followed by a white Infiniti and a white BMW. Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and an unidentified third man allegedly open-fired at the Escalade at a gas station, before running back to their vehicles and driving away.

About 50 minutes after the shooting, the alleged conspirators were spotted at an In-N-Out Burger in Los Angeles by a surveillance camera. Wilson, Houston, Lindsey, and Jones, along with an unidentified co-conspirator, reportedly boarded a flight from San Diego to Chicago a few hours later, using the same credit card linked to OTF and Durk.

Lil Durk and the five other defendants are expected to be arraigned at the United States District Court in Los Angeles in the next few weeks. At present, Lil Durk is in federal custody in Miami while Jones and Houston are at the Metropolitan Correctional Center Chicago.

Grant, Lindsey, and Wilson are housed at the Winnebago County Jail in Illinois and awaiting extradition to Los Angeles, according to a November 4 report cited by Newsweek.
