Quando Rondo was recently sentenced to 2 years and nine months, which sums up to 33 months. The sentencing was linked to a federal drug charge and the rapper pleaded guilty to the same while appearing at a court in Georgia on December 10, 2024.
According to the Associated Press, the sentence was given by Judge R. Stan Baker and the charge against Rondo included conspiracy to possess and distribute marijuana.
Quando Rondo was additionally ordered to pay a fine of $40,000 and a supervised release of three years. Savannah Now stated that he will report to the Bureau of Prisons in January next year and he is expected to serve his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution Estill or FCI Jesup.
Furthermore, prosecutors opted to drop other charges that were imposed after being taken into custody by the FBI in December last year. The accusations include conspiracy for possession and distribution of different drugs such as methamphetamine, as per ABC News.
Notably, Rondo was spotted embracing his family members outside the court and he refused to speak to any of the reporters. Apart from him, his attorney Tom Withers avoided sharing a statement with anyone.
Quando Rondo's original sentencing was supposed to be for 37 months
Rondo's attorney Tom Withers attempted to get the minimum sentencing for his client as they appeared at the court. Savannah Morning News reported that the initial request was for 37 months and a fine of $50,000 from the Southern District of Georgia U.S. Attorney Bradley Thompson.
Thompson even addressed the reasons for requesting the sentence, saying that Quando Rondo needs to be on the right path since kids look up to him.
Thompson then addressed the music video of Quando's single Life Goes On, where he released blue and white balloons in memory of his close friend Savaiya Robinson, who was killed in 2022. Thompson claimed that the Crips Street Gang is represented by the color of the balloons seen in the video, stating that he expected Rondo to not be associated with a criminal street gang.
On the other hand, Tom Withers requested a sentencing of 24 months, which sums up to two years. Withers told the court that Rondo was not a part of any gang, adding that the legal situations have changed for charges related to drugs such as marijuana.
Quando Rondo was arrested on drug charges last year
In December 2023, Quando Rondo was arrested along with two co-defendants, Donald Davis and Ty'Sean Davis, on charges related to a drug distribution conspiracy in 2021. The charges came after a traffic stop on December 9, 2023, when Savannah Police stopped a black Toyota Camry.
Quando Rondo was sitting in the front seat, and a tag cover was obstructing the license plate. The car's driver, 20-year-old Jakiyah Muhammad, was identified, and at the time, Rondo was out on bond.
According to Savannah Morning News, he was previously indicted in June 2023 for violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act and Violation of Street Gang Terrorism Act. The indictment claimed that Rondo reportedly worked with a gang called Rollin' 60s and requested a few of the members to supply guns and start selling marijuana in Macon.
