Rapper Cardi B made headlines after saying that she would “rob men again” during her appearance on X Space on Thursday, August 8. She also claimed that she didn’t “feel bad” for these people and would even mention them on her “album.”

In the wake of her now-viral remarks, the internet is having diverse reactions with most expressing disbelief. For instance, X user @Milliam commented on influencer @kirawontmiss’ repost of the rapper’s comments, by writing:

“How is this okay to post online to millions?”

Many others shared her sentiments and made similar responses on the platform, calling Cardi B “disgusting,” and pointing out that her fans enable such behavior. People also demanded the rapper's cancellation.

“This is what happens when we coddle these celebrities for too long. Y’all condone everything to a fault. She doesn’t even think she did anything wrong,” a person wrote.
“She’ll get a slàp on her wrist and they’ll forget about this... she’s disgusting!” one person wrote.
“We need to cancel her,” an individual wrote.

Others reacted by saying that Cardi B deserved to be in prison for making such comments.

“She belongs to the jail,” one individual wrote.
“She needs to be locked up,” a netizen wrote.

Fans of Cardi B’s longtime hip-hop rival Nicki Minaj also weighed in and said that the latter would never make such comments and the former should receive similar treatment as when Nicki makes a gaffe.

“Nicki Minaj would never btw,” one netizen wrote.
“Wonder if the same people dragging Nicki will drag her,” another netizen wrote.

Exploring Cardi B’s past comments about “robbing” men

In March 2019, a video surfaced online where Cardi B was heard saying that at the time when she worked as a stripper, she’d “drug n*ggas up” and “rob them.” The rapper admitted in the viral clip that whatever she did was to “survive” and nothing was “handed” to her, apparently hinting that her successful music career wasn’t an easy one, and she did “work for it.”

However, Cardi B faced a severe online backlash and apologized for her comment, which she claimed was over three years old. She posted a statement on her social media with the caption, “All I can do now is be a better me for myself my family, and my future.”

“I talked about things I had to do in my past, right or wrong, that I felt I needed to do to make a living. I never claim to be perfect or come from a perfect world, with a perfect past. I always speak my truth, I always own my sh*t,” Cardi B said in her statement.

She further acknowledged` that she was part of the hip-hop culture that allowed people to talk about their past, including where they come from and what they did to get there. The New Yorker explained that rappers often “glorify” by mentioning crimes they did to “survive” in their songs, but she never did.

“I never glorified the things… I never even put those things in my music because I’m not proud of it and I feel a responsibility not to glorify it. I made the choices I did at the time because I had very limited options… I have a past that I can’t change, we all do,” the Bodak Yellow rapper stated.

The now 31-year-old wrapped up her clarification by saying that she was “blessed” to be able to “rise” up from her past, and the “poor choices” she made were part of her survival journey. She also said that the “men” she talked about were the ones she was involved with, both consciously and willingly.

In April 2023, when Cardi B wrote in a tweet that “this world is full of predators” seemingly in response to the-then Dalai Lama controversy, many netizens pointed out her hypocrisy, bringing back her “drugging and robbing men” remark.

At the time, the Girls Like You rapper went on Instagram Live to address the backlash and claimed that s*xual misconduct and drugging and robbing men who weren’t “vulnerable” were different. She also called out her critics for bringing up her past over and over again.
