Puerto Rican singer Daddy Yankee announced on Monday, December 2, that he and his longtime wife, Mireddys González, are getting divorced. The former shared on his Instagram stories that he received the divorce petition from his wife and high school sweetheart after trying to save their marriage “for many months.” The now-former couple are parents to two children.

In his Instagram stories, Daddy Yankee shared that he and his 47-year-old wife were separating after a nearly three-decade-long marriage. He shared that with faith in Christ, the couple did their best to save their marriage; however, they were unable to overcome their differences. He said:

“This is not an easy time, but I understand that it is part of my life process. It is time to accept and continue. Protect my stability, my children and everything built over so many years. I deeply thank those who have accompanied us during this journey and I ask that you respect our privacy in this process. I know this news may surprise many.”

Mireddys González was Daddy Yankee’s manager and is also the CEO of his label, El Cartel Records. The duo are high school sweethearts.

The now-former couple tied the knot on March 20, 1995. While commemorating their 25th wedding anniversary in 2020, González took to Instagram to share a throwback photo of the couple and also expressed that the Dura singer was “every woman’s dream husband.” She added:

“25 years ago I made the best decision of my life with the most beautiful man in the world.”

The couple welcomed their daughter Jesaaelys in June 1996, who is a social media sensation with over two million followers on Instagram. She is also a YouTuber who frequently shares lifestyle vlogs, and she is also behind her own beauty brand, Jesaaelys Beauty, which specializes in cruelty-free and vegan makeup products.

The couple’s second child and son, Jeremy, was born in May 1998. He followed his father’s footsteps and now works in the entertainment industry as a music producer. He has amassed over 393K followers on Instagram. He is married to Andrea De Castro Ayala, the founder of the DCM media agency.

Speaking about their family life, Daddy Yankee told People en Español back in November 2022:
