Crazy Town's manager Howie Huberman recently appeared for an interview with People magazine, saying that Shifty Shellshock died from complications resulting from a "combination of prescription drugs and street purchased drugs." The musician was discovered at his residence in Los Angeles on Monday, June 24.
The manager also said that Shellshock always wanted to get rid of his addiction but no one had a way out for him.
"Seth Binzer, after struggling with addiction and Crazy Town's rapid success with 'Butterfly', never was able to reach out on a more successful level to deal with his addictions. We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, or Shifty would still be here."
However, further details are expected to be revealed in the toxicology reports which are currently pending from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. In another statement shared with Rolling Stone, Huberman stated that Shifty Shellshock was battling with substance abuse for a long time and continued:
"Seth was not happy with the daily struggle that's called life. Some people cope in many different ways. It's unfortunate we lose so many people to addiction and accessibility to harmful drugs. Shifty was a real-life tragedy. Too fast, too hard, too soon."
The singer had a successful career with Crazy Town over the years. The group released four albums, starting with The Gift of Game in 1999. His solo album, Happy Love Sick, came out back in 2004 and was known for singles such as Side Along Side and Turning Me On.
Shifty Shellshock had been battling addiction for a long time
Following Shellshock's recent demise, actress and model Carmen Electra said in a statement to People magazine that he was "one of the sweetest people." She recalled the time when Shifty appeared for an interview on MTV Spring Break and added:
"And that's what I think that everyone knows him knows, that he's actually a very, very sweet person – and addiction is not OK. It's serious, and he didn't ever deny his struggles. I just hope everybody that is really, really close to him is OK."
Also known as Seth Brooks Binzer, he never tried to hide his struggle with addiction and was featured on shows such as Celebrity Rehab and Sober House. He was undergoing treatment for cocaine and painkillers when he appeared on the former. He later told People magazine in an interview:
"I was facing death if I kept at it. I want to stay sober."
Shifty Shellshock's addiction also created problems in his relationship with actress and reality TV star Jasmine Lennard. The situation took a different turn when Jasmine filed a lawsuit in 2013, requesting complete custody of her son Phoenix and restricting Shellshock from visiting him. This happened after Shellshock started smoking crack in the child's bedroom.
Shifty Shellshock was involved in a dispute with a member of Crazy Town
Shellshock was also in the headlines for a dispute with guitarist Bobby Reeves last year. The incident was recorded on video and it happened during one of Crazy Band's performances in South Carolina. Shifty was reportedly spotted hitting Reeves who was trying to cover his face from the attack.
Although Shifty Shellshock helped Reeves to stand on his feet again, the latter allegedly threatened Binzer's family and hit him in the face. The dispute reportedly started when Shellshock did not arrive on stage to perform and Reeves had to take his position as the vocalist.
