How did Slim 400 die? LA rapper’s killer sentenced to 32 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter

Compton rapper Slim 400's killer is brought to justice for his fatal shooting in Inglewood, California. On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that Michael Terry received a 32-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

Vincent Cohran Jr., who went by the moniker Slim 400, was gunned down in December 2021. Per a report by CBS News, Terry shot Cohran after the two got into a struggle outside the latter's home.

In his statement, DA Gascón also expressed his condolences to the Bruisin singer's family and condemned gun violence. He stated:

"Our hearts go out to the families of Mr. Cohran, an artist in the Los Angeles community who was taken far too soon by a tragic act of gun violence."

He continued:

Our Community Violence Reduction Unit vigorously prosecutes gun violence to protect our communities. Gun violence has no place in our society, and we will continue to work closely with communities we serve to help prevent these senseless crimes."

Co-defendant Tamra Lynn Bell also pleaded guilty in Slim 400's murder case

On December 8, 2021, police officers patrolling 7th Avenue and Manchester Avenue in Inglewood rushed to Slim 400's home after they heard multiple gunshots.

A report by the Los Angeles Times citing Inglewood PD explained that cops found a wounded man, later identified as the rapper. Vincent was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hours before his death, Slim 400 made an Instagram post promoting the video for his song Caviar Gold (Ice Water).

Six months after his death, cops arrested Michael Lanell Terry and Tamra Lynn Bell in connection with the shooting. Bell, the co-defendant in the murder case, also pleaded guilty to a felony charge of accessory, and her sentencing is scheduled for January 2025.

Slim 400 was an up-and-coming rapper known to be a member of YG's (Young Gangsta) label. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, to parents in the military, he moved to Compton, California, at an early age.

He began making music when he was 12, and released his first mixtape, High Off Trees Vol. 1 and 2, in 2010 when he was 22.

The rapper is best known for his songs Goapele, Redrum 187, and Piru. He released his final project, BompTTon, earlier in 2021.

This was not the first time Vincent was involved in a shooting. In June 2019, the emcee narrowly escaped death after he was shot nine times, including in the ear, back, shoulder, and jaw. F

Following his recovery the next month, the rapper reflected on the incident during his appearance on Nick Cannon Mornings. Slim explained he was "talking to God," praying for a chance to "do right." and "do better."

Slim 400's team has not released a statement about Terry's sentencing.
