Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, a.k.a. Megan Thee Stallion, recently admitted to being "disappointed" in her former friend Kelsey Nicole Harris. In her new documentary In Her Words, which premiered on Prime Video on Thursday, October 31, 2024, the rapper opened up about the infamous 2020 shooting.
For the unversed, Canadian rapper Tory Lanez is serving a 10-year prison sentence after he was found guilty of shooting Megan in her foot in 2020. The case involved the two rappers and Harris getting into a drunken roadside altercation after leaving a party. During the high-profile trial, Harris disclosed that Megan went behind her back and allegedly slept with the Canadian rapper, with whom she was having an intimate relationship.
In her documentary, Megan mentioned she was disappointed in Nicole for turning on her during the trial, stating:
"She just really disappointed me and let me down. I would never let somebody like that drag my best friend."
As news of the Mamushi hitmaker's comments spread, internet users were quick to react. One called out Megan for betraying Kelsey first, stating:
"How is she (Megan) the victim when her (Kelsey's) best friend was messing with him first make it make sense Megan."
Netizens continued criticising the Huston-born rapper calling her "egotistical" and "selfish." Here are some comments seen under @its_onsite's post on Instagram:
Others spoke up in her support, stating that Megan did not deserve to get shot despite being in the wrong.
"Why is you asking me about f**king Tory?"- Megan Thee Stallion admits she lied to Gayle King about having a s*xual relationship with Tory Lanez
In her documentary, In Her Words, Megan Thee Stallion stated that when she lost her mother in 2019, she "forgot" who she was and "lost a lot of confidence." She added that Kelsey Nicole Harris supported her during the trying times, adding that she was like her "family." Hence, Harris' actions since the incident in 2020 felt "disappoint(ing)."
According to a December 2022 report by Vulture, prosecutors hoped that Harris, a key witness, could potentially corroborate Pete's story. However, when she took the stand during the trial, she exercised her 5th Amendment right which granted her immunity.
According to a December 2022 report by ABC7, when questioned about the evening, Kelsey stated, "I honestly don't remember." She reasoned alcohol made her memory "blurry." She even backtracked on an earlier testimony made to L.A. County Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta, which was played during the trial to refresh her memory.
In September 2022, D.A. Kathy Ta recorded an interview with Harris where she described specifics from the unfortunate evening in detail. However, during the trial, she confessed she lied arguing that she was "protecting (herself)." To be noted, Kelsey told Ta that Lanez allegedly threatened to shoot her while inside the vehicle.
Additionally, per ABC7, prosecutors then showed her a text message sent by her to Megan Thee Stallion's bodyguard reading, "Help. Tory shot Meg. 911." Harris claimed she didn't know why she wrote that as she didn't see anything happen. When further questioned, she pleaded 5th, adding that she didn't want to be part of the trial as it was "triggering" for her.
According to a December 2022 article by Variety, Kelsey Harris, during her testimony, explained that Lanez (she previously testified that they had an intimate relationship)," brought up his and Megan Thee Stallion's s*xual relationship. She added:
"I don’t know what’s going on. He’s just saying that they had a relationship, they were having a relationship. An argument ensues and just continues. Me and her are arguing about her disloyalty."
Pete testified in court that Lanez allegedly offered her "a million dollars" to keep quiet about the events of that night. She also claimed Harris allegedly took the "hush money" and hence backtracked. However, Kelsey denied the same.
In her documentary, Megan Thee Stallion admitted she lied to Gayle King about having an intimate relationship with Tory Lanez.
"Yes, b**ch. I lied to Gayle King, b**ch. First of all, I didn't know that b**ch was even finna ask me about that sh*t. We supposed to be talking about the shooting. Why is you asking me about f**king Tory? That's not what this is about. Even if I was...I f**ed the ni**a like once, maybe twice, on a drunk night. You kept catching me out of my f**king mind."
Pete is referring to her April 2022 interview with Gayle King. When questioned about their relationship, the Hot Girl Summer artist had denied having a s*xual relationship with Lanez.
Neither Kelsey Harris nor Gayle King have publicly reacted to the development.
