Former rapper-turned-podcaster Joe Budden revealed that he is not a fan of Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino's newest album, Bando Stone & The New World, released on July 19, 2024. Speaking on his eponymous podcast on July 29, 2024, Budden expressed his disdain for what will be Gambino's last album, saying:
“I hate it! I absolutely f***ing hate it. I’m sorry. I know I’m gaining a reputation as a hater — fast […] If you spoke as much as I have to speak for a living, eventually you’d have to start telling the truth about some things.”
He added that he found the album to be “really, really, really pop" and alternative, saying he preferred the style of the rapper's 2013 song Urn over the new album.
In another part of the podcast episode, Joe Budden also mocked Gambino's song No Excuses from Bando Stone & The New World, dubbing it a "bis*xual" track.
“He got real alternative. Let him get in his bis*xual bag! Nah, this song is like you’re taking all takers. Whoever trying to holla at the club, you down. It’s fire, though,” he said.
In a July episode of Hot Ones, Donald Glover confirmed that Bando Stone & The New World will be his last foray into music under the moniker Childish Gambino. The new album will also be the soundtrack for Glover's upcoming sci-fi apocalyptic movie of the same name.
Childish Gambino seemingly dissed Joe Budden in his new album's track Survival
Childish Gambino seemingly took some subliminal shots on his final album, Bando Stone & The New World. Fans speculated that one diss might be intended for Joe Budden. In the song Survival featuring Chlöe Bailey, Gambino rapped:
"They in the minor leagues, but I’m pro-Black / I bet he hate his mom, how you know that? / You got a podcast ’cause you can’t rap / You on some Fresh and Fit s**t, talking body counts / I count a body every time I’m on tracks."
For the unversed, Joe Budden had a rap career between the early 2000s and 2018, following which he became a podcaster full-time. According to UpRoxx, Budden has also had feuds with the hosts of Fresh and Fit, a controversial men's self-improvement podcast.
Meanwhile, the "body count" line alluded to a discussion that Joe Budden and his co-hosts had on his podcast in 2023 about how many people they had slept with.
Gambino's alleged diss against Joe Budden came after the podcaster previously said Drake would decimate Gambino in a battle, both in rap or a "skit-off." In a July 14, 2023 episode on his podcast, Budden said:
“If those two have a parody-off, now I’m in. If they have a skit-off — ’cause they both are talented in that regard. Drake’ll smoke that n****’s boots. Drake’ll smoke that n****’s fucking muffin.”
Joe Budden's comments followed the news of Glover revealing that his 2018 hit track, This Is America, was originally intended as a Drake diss in an April 2023 interview with GQ.
Drake hit back at Glover, with a headline on the stage screen pronouncing the track "overrated and over awarded" when he aptly performed his song Headlines during his 'It's All a Blur Tour' in July 2023.
Additionally, fans speculated the track Yoshinoya from Bando Stone & The New World was a diss targeting the Canadian rapper. However, this has not been confirmed by Childish Gambino.
