In a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, broadcaster Joe Budden was surprised with a gold plaque for his hit track Pump It Up. After receiving the plaque from LL Cool J, he celebrated it and said,

"That's nice. I will take it. Humbling moment, I almost shed a little thug tear."

The hit song was released in 2003 as a part of his debut album, Joe Budden. The song gained popularity by securing the 38th position on the US Billboard Hot 100. It made it to the thirteenth position in the UK.

The track received its RIAA certification in August 2023. Fans are surprised that it took so long for the hit song to earn the status, but it garnered mixed reactions from netizens. While many applauded and claimed that the track should have earned the gold status much earlier, some trolled him.

Some even referenced Drake, as Budden has criticized the Canadian rapper a few times. Recently, Budden took a dig at him by mentioning that his deal with Universal Music Group didn't mean he gained freedom. A user wrote on X:

"20 years+ for his biggest record to go gold, and this clown wants to lecture Drake on music success and deals??? The Audacity."

What did Joe Budden say about Drake and his deal with UMG in his podcast episode?

As mentioned, Joe Budden received a gold plaque from LL Cool J during a podcast episode, which made him emotional, too. The honor was for his 2003 hit track Pump It Up. While many praised the former rapper, many mocked him on social media. They even trolled him for receiving the gold status for his track in August 2023 and compared him to Drake.

For the unversed, Budden had recently talked about the deal between Drake and UMG. He debunked the rumors that the Canadian rapper would get complete creative freedom along with the deal. He claimed that associating freedom with licensing was the "biggest myth ever." As reported by XXL Mag, he added:

"A licensing deal does not mean you have freedom to do whatever the f**k you want. Actually, it means the exact opposite. It means, 'You keep it.' That's the label telling you that they don't wanna be liable for none of your s**t, no way."

He even claimed that the companies happened to trick several artists, who believed they were getting total creative freedom, into getting into licensing deals with them.

This wasn't the first time Budden took a dig at Drake. The two artists have dissed each other in tracks like 4PM in Calabasas and Making a Murderer Pt. 1. The last time they got in a rift was when Drake came after Joe Budden for criticizing his studio album, For All The Dogs.

Many netizens noted Joe Budden's statements about Drake and trolled him later when he received recognition for his song or when he received the gold plaque from LL Cool J recently.
