A Houston-based attorney, Tony Buzbee, who refiled a s*xual assault case and mentioned Jay-Z as one of the defendants has issued a statement, and responded to the rapper's claims accusing the lawyer of extortion. Calling out the alleged “aggressive efforts,” Tony Buzbee wrote on Instagram:
“Despite a coordinated and aggressive effort that has included harassing my kids, contacting my clients and former clients to encourage them to sue me, contacting my colleagues or former employees asking if I’ve “abused” them, showing up at my current employees’ homes to harass them, filing frivolous cases against me and my law firm, defaming me with outrageous assertions to anyone who will listen.”
Buzbee continued:
“I won’t be bullied or intimidated. People will see through this effort to discredit me and my clients and the truth will be revealed. I also won’t allow anyone to scare my clients into silence. Sunlight is the best disinfectant and I am quite certain the sun is coming.”
The whole fiasco took place after Tony Buzbee refiled a lawsuit accusing Sean Combs, aka Diddy, of r*ping a minor of 13 years old. In the lawsuit, which names Jay-Z as a defendant, the accuser "Jane Doe" claims that Jay-Z and Diddy assaulted her at the MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000.
“My only heartbreak is for my family”: Jay-Z’s statement explored as Tony Buzbee accuses him of assaulting a minor in a refiled civil lawsuit
As Tony Buzbee refiled his civil lawsuit adding Jay-Z’s name in the list of defendants, the rapper instantly reacted to the lawsuit, and issued a statement to NBC refuting the claims made in the lawsuit.
Jay-Z said:
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree? These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case. My only heartbreak is for my family.”
He further said that his kids will “ask questions” about the claims made.
“My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence,” the statement said.
Furthermore, Jay-Z also accused Tony Buzbee of extortion, claiming that the lawyer is “shamelessly attempting to extort exorbitant sums from him or else publicly file wildly false horrific allegations against him.”
While the accuser has not specified the damages, it is worth noting that the lawsuit has been filed under New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act. The lawsuit by Tony Buzbee narrates the whole alleged incident and states that as the 13-year-old was not able to get a ticket to the party, she approached various limousine drivers, among which, one was Diddy’s driver.
The lawsuit mentions that the girl was allegedly asked to sign a “non-disclosure agreement” if she wanted to enter the party, and was then taken to a white house, where she reported that celebrities were doing marijuana and other drugs. She was then supposedly offered a drug, after which she fell asleep, and was then allegedly assaulted by Jay-Z and Diddy.
Diddy, who is also a defendant in Buzbee's lawsuit, has also denied the allegations through his lawyers. The music mogul continues to remain in prison ever since he was arrested on September 16, 2024, in New York, following a grand jury indictment.
