Kanye West, an American rapper and record producer, has once again captured the public's attention with the launch of the Yeezy SLPR, a minimalist slipper that retails for $20.

On January 13, 2025, Kanye West launched his brand's Yeezy SLPR footwear item. The internet quickly drew comparisons, with many on X pointing out its resemblance to affordable alternatives available on platforms like Temu, an e-commerce marketplace that offers heavily discounted items.

"I can get these for $5 on temu," one commented.

Many users on X shared screenshots of their orders, highlighting the shipping costs, which nearly matched the footwear's price. This sparked a debate on X.

"$15 shipping is outrageous, especially since they don't even offer odd count sizes only even count," a user on X commented.
"The postage is more than the actual item 🙄🤣," another commented.
"n**gas saying “only $20” as if it’s not the most generic black slippers that can be found at a fleamarket," one more commented.
"$20 shoes = $20 design😭🤷‍♂️," a netizen commented.

Some users on X expressed frustration over the sizing, as many were confused about the options. Others suggested that the footwear's manufacturing cost was significantly lower than the retail price.

"IM A SIZE 9 YE WHAT SIZE DO I CHOOSE?!" a netizen commented.
"Costs .35 to make, $1130 to buy," another wrote.
"I will never understand why thousands of people will spend hundreds of dollars on shoes that you make for $2 in a Chinese factory," one more on X.
"20$ 3 years shipping we good," a netizen on X.

Currently, Ye has not responded to the online reactions, nor has anyone from Yeezy addressed the queries raised by netizens.

On Monday, January 13, 2025, Yeezy, a fashion collaboration line between Kanye West and Adidas, launched a new pair of footwear via their website. The footwear, named Yeezy SLPR, has an all-black design that blends elements from Ye's previous Yeezy Slide and Foam Runner models.

The Yeezy SLPR features a minimalist aesthetic and lightweight construction. It resembles a long sock with rubber traction pods on the soles. The footwear is available in eight sizes: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16. While limited information is available, the Yeezy SLPR can be purchased from the official website.

Yeezy separated from Adidas in 2022 following a series of alleged offensive behaviors by Kanye West, including antisemitic comments. The two parties eventually reached a settlement and withdrew all claims against each other. Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden told the LA Times in a statement —

"There [aren’t] any more open issues and there is no … money going either way. Both parties said we don’t need to fight anymore and withdrew all the claims.
"When you have conflicts like this, you take provisions and you have legal opinions and there are negotiations and there are settlements being done, and this is the end to it. No one owes anybody anything anymore. So whatever was is history."

However, just days before the launch of Yeezy SLPR, Kanye West, in a since-deleted Instagram post, accused Adidas of "design theft and oppression" and alleged that the company was attempting to undermine him.

West also claimed Adidas manipulated search engine results, causing Adidas to rank higher than Yeezy merchandise on the keyword "Yeezy," as shown in a screenshot he posted. He demanded Adidas "stop doing this" and accused the company of trying to "intimidate and oppress me."

As of now, Adidas has not responded to the claims made by Kanye West.
