"I cherish the privacy we aim to keep for ourselves" — Hozier confirms relationship with Hana Mayeda, defends girlfriend online

Well-known singer Hozier has made headlines after making his relationship official with model Hana Mayeda. The relationship was confirmed by the artist in the comment section of an Instagram post shared by Mayeda in July 2023 that featured glimpses of her vacation in Italy.

Notably, the rumors of the duo dating began when they were seen in a photo on the same Instagram post from July. The picture featured a pool with a man seemingly kissing Mayeda in the background. A follower of Mayeda reacted to the same by writing in the comments section:

"Is that hozier in slide 3?"

Also known as Andrew John Hozier-Byrne, he responded to the conversation that emerged out of the comment by introducing himself and continued:

"It's about waiting for lockdown to end. Now that's out of the way, it'd feel really good if you could refrain from carrying out a conversation like this on my gf's personal page. It's entirely baseless, and feels as insensitive and disrespectful as it would for anyone else. I cherish the privacy we aim to keep for ourselves."

Mayeda is known for her association with Victoria's Secret and she began her career at the age of 16. She has additionally served as a yoga teacher and is 37 years old as of 2024. Mayeda's LinkedIn profile states that she completed her studies at the University of San Diego and was the Director of Development at English in Mind from 2014 to 2016.

Hozier has preferred to maintain privacy when it comes to his personal life

Despite having a successful career over the years, Andrew has maintained a distance from the limelight in terms of his romantic relationships. This is one of the reasons why it has resulted in different reports of his name being linked to various personalities throughout his career.

Andrew has collaborated with many singers, including Loah and Saoirse Ronan, which led to rumors that he was in a relationship with them.

On the other hand, a new report started making rounds online, claiming that Andrew was dating musician Lyra McNamara. Andrew and Lyra's dating rumors emerged when the latter shared a picture featuring them, and Lyra eventually revealed that they went to the same wedding.

Although Hozier does not reveal many details about his personal life, there have been certain references to relationships in his singles, including Francesca. A portion of the song addressed losing a person who was very close to him and it states:

"You know the distance never made a difference to me / I swam a lake of fire / I'd have walked across the floor of any sea."

In an interview with The Telegraph last year, the 34-year-old openly stated that he would not like to disclose more about his relationships to the public and said:

"It would be a shame if I couldn't sit in a bar with friends … There's something wonderful about watching people interact, being a witness to the world. That's very hard when you walk in a door and feel people witnessing you. So yeah, I keep my head down."

The Newcastle, Ireland native's last album Unreal Unearth was released in August 2023. The project grabbed the third spot on the US Billboard 200 and had 16 singles on the soundtrack.
