Kehlani's ex Javaughn Young-White filed for full custody of their daughter on July 26, 2024, claiming that the rapper was linked to a cult. Notably, Young-White approached the court to file a petition for the same and the legal documents included some shocking details.
Meanwhile, Young-White has now shared a statement from his side through Instagram on August 9, addressing the allegations that were reportedly made towards Kehlani in the petition. He started by writing:
"On August 6th, the public became aware of court documents that were submitted without my approval by my former representation. These documents contained general recollections from my initial consultation with my aforementioned rep. They were filed with choice language I didn't okay. I regret they were included."
Young-White added that details related to "Priest Neto and his church" were spread by "parties of priority", who intended to use the allegations to start their disputes with the church. He claimed that both parties are no longer aligned with the allegations and continued:
"When I was presented with the allegations against Neto and his church, my daughter was no longer affiliated. However, I was deeply distressed about the direct care of my child. From my perspective, I was being told the consequences of alarming decision-making that could have ended quite differently."
Javaughn mentioned that he supported his child's agency before she joined the church but was unable to stop anything because of the ongoing condition of the child's custody and documentation. He said that the evidence of both parties was provided by his first counsel but he never approved them for submission.
Young-White ended by saying that the allegations that emerged out of the petition were "careless" and added:
"I deeply regret and apologize for any role I played in perpetuating these claims. I hope Priest Neto, his family, and affected members of the church receive just restoration. I am looking forward to continuing the advocacy of my child's wellbeing."
Kehlani denied the claims made by Javaughn Young-White in the petition
Kehlani shared a statement through her Instagram Story on August 6, 2024, dismissing the claims about being a part of a cult. Kehlani was in a relationship with Javaughn Young-White between 2018 and 2019. She wrote in her story that the allegations reported by the media were not true and added:
"I strongly deny any claims that I have put my child in harm's way, or left my child alone with anyone deemed dangerous or unsafe. I also do not align with any of the allegations made against my former religious community that have been stated in the media."
The artist wrote that she has always prioritized her child's safety and continued:
"This is a legal, private, familial matter that will be handled accordingly, and I will now be taking space for my own personal well-being and, most importantly, for the well-being of my child."
Kehlani also posted Young-White's response to the allegations through her Instagram Story, where he criticized TMZ for exploiting his child's reputation. He said that the outlet "sensationalized" the entire matter and wrote:
"I do not need to paint an unfair image of my co-parent for my justifiable feelings to be respected by the court of law. This unfortunate trauma only increases the obstacles in ensuring my child's wellbeing."
Notably, Young-White worked as a guitarist for Kehlani in the past and his identity was revealed when the latter appeared for an interview on Queen Radio, hosted by Nicki Minaj, in 2018. Before Young-White, Kehlani was romantically linked to popular faces such as Kyrie Irving and YG.
