DaBaby recently responded to the $4 million alleged assault lawsuit leveled at him by his ex-girlfriend DaniLeigh's brother, Brandon Bills. The latter first filed the lawsuit in 2022, weeks after he was involved in an altercation with the rapper and his entourage in a Los Angeles bowling alley in February 2022.
In an October 9, 2024, interview with Bootleg Kev, the host brought up the topic of the looming lawsuit. At first, the rapper claimed he didn't know anything about it. But when the host replied that Bills threatened him online, the rapper said he didn't see an outcome where the lawsuit went well for Bills.
DaBaby, who maintained that he acted in self-defense during the fight, called the lawsuit the "easiest case" to win, adding that Bills would potentially foot his legal fees as well.
“I don’t see that going well for the man. Threatening me on camera with all the different platforms out here. It just don’t make sense. You going to have to pay them lawyer fees, my boy. They gon’ make you pay them too, they ain’t making me pay. That’s going to be the easiest case I ever had to beat,” he said.
Fans theorize DaBaby and Bills' fight was related to DaniLeigh
In February 2022, footage of Brandon Bills and DaBaby having a physical altercation made the rounds on social media. According to XXL Magazine, the videos showed the rapper throwing the first punch at Bills. Another video showed several men joining the rapper to beat Bills.
While it is unclear why the altercation started, many on social media assumed the fight was related to a November 2021 incident between DaBaby and DaniLeigh. The pair, who share a three-year-old daughter, got into a public argument on Instagram Live.
This resulted in DaBaby accusing DaniLeigh of assaulting him, which led to the latter being charged with two counts of assault. Following this, Brandon Bills challenged the rapper to a one-on-one fight if they crossed paths.
"So this what you wanna do? This where you wanna take it? This crazy. This n****a wanna call the cops on my sis. This n****a wanna disrespect my sister online for the world to see, disrespect my family...This don't even got nothing to do with my sister no more, bro. This gotta do with me and you...’cause you're Mr. Tough Guy over here, beating up b***hes. Knocking little guys out here and there. You're not gonna do that to me," Bills said at the time.
DaBaby seemingly mentioned the lawsuit in a recent diss track
After the altercation at the bowling alley, Brandon Bills sued the rapper for an unspecified sum for “physical and psychological damage.” According to a recent report from InTouch Weekly, Bills filed an update on the lawsuit. The new documents saw him ask for a compensation of $2 million in general damages and $2 million in special damages, $4 million in total.
In April 2024, Radar Online reported that Bills hired a private investigator to serve the rapper with the lawsuit, but to no avail. He later asked the court to permit him to publish it in a newspaper, which was allowed.
DaBaby seemingly mentioned the lawsuit in a diss track released in August 2024. In the track titled Lawsuit On A Wednesday, the rapper did not directly mention Bills by name. However, many fans theorized the song was filled with subliminal shots at the latter.
“He was gangsta before, now you suin’ me, huh? / That tough s***, he don’t wanna do it no more / Out the spot, ain’t want nothin’ to do wit’ the wh**e,” the rapper says in the chorus.
In addition to DaBaby, Brandon Bills is also suing Corbin Bowls, the bowling alley, for not trying to protect him as a customer.
