On Wednesday, Lara Trump shared a video on social media with Taylor Swift's song 22 in a campaign ad. This happened about a month after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris through an Instagram post, eventually prompting Donald Trump to write on Truth Social, "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!"
The post was shared by Lara on her feed as well as on the GOP candidate’s official Team Trump Instagram account. The video featured Lara Trump along with a group of MAGA-supporting women, all in pink. While they began grooving to Taylor Swift's 2013 track, it shifted to Forgiato Blow’s Trump Trump Baby in the end.
The group of women included anchor Sage Steele, political commentators Diamond and Silk, Elizabeth Pipko, Lynne Patton, Ellie Cohanim, and political analyst Erin Elmore.
The video caught attention on social media, which led netizens to flood X (formerly Twitter) with their reactions.
One user wrote:
"Oh no. I hope the TS legal team sends cease and desist! trump camp is clearly blatantly violating something here. The Swifties will certainly fire back, I bet."
Several netizens criticized the situation, suggesting that the women don't understand tariffs, stealing music, and expressing hope that Taylor Swift would respond.
"Not one of them will be able to tell you how tariffs work," one user quipped.
"If you can’t win Taylor’s vote but you want her so bad you still rip off her music. All you people do is steal!" declared another one.
"I hope Tay Tay strikes back...." commented another netizen.
Other netizens criticized Lara for using Taylor Swift's music for their campaign. A user tweeted:
"Taylor Swift has enough money to hire lawyers that could win a lawsuit against angels for singing Christmas carols."
"Did they get permission from Taylor Swift to use her song..." pointed out another netizen.
"Cease and desist incoming," commented a user.
Donald Trump had reportedly shared an AI-generated endorsement of Taylor Swift in the past that further enraged her fans
Through a post that surprised many, Taylor endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
The Bad Blood singer's endorsement of Harris happened after the debate between Trump and the Vice President occurred. It was also shortly after Trump reportedly shared AI-generated posts showing Taylor's endorsement for him.
In the September 11 post by Taylor, where she endorsed Harris, she also wrote about Donald Trump's AI-generated image:
"Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation."
As for the current campaign ad video shared by Lara, netizens not only criticized her for using Taylor's song but also called the video "cringe."
However, this was not the first time a song used in a Trump campaign was disapproved. As per Billboard, Trump's team removed a post where Beyonce's track Freedom was used, as the latter reportedly sent the former a cease and desist order. For the uninitiated, this song was one of Harris's main campaign themes
As of now, Taylor Swift or her team has not given any statement regarding the usage of her song in the latest video.
