Latto recently shared that she likes a healthy competition in the rap world. She added that the ongoing beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, which resulted in several diss tracks, made her feel "nostalgic."
During an interview with Billboard, published on July 19, the Atlanta rapper gave her two cents about the two rap superstars' week-long rap feud. She said:
"I ain't going to lie: I liked it! I liked the back-and-forth. I thought it was healthy for the culture."
Talking about the Kendrick Lamar-Drake battle, she stated that it brought up a king of rivalry that the current generation hasn't seen in a while. She further said:
"I just feel nostalgic. I don't think our generation has even seen a rivalry like that. I f**ked with it."
The Sunday Service artist also had something to say about the people taking the rap beef too seriously, noting that Kendrick Lamar and Drake are "both so talented." She added:
"I also think people get too into it. I feel like it's two n***as that's killing this sh*t, and they [are] both so talented and they [are] both on the[it] high horse flexing their talent and capabilities."
In terms of winners and losers, Latto said that both the artists could still share the GOAT title in the rap scene. But when asked about her favorite track that came out of the ongoing rap beef, she picked Drake's Family Matters as her choice.
Latto talks about her upcoming Sugar Honey Iced Tea album's August release in the same interview
Ongoing rap beef aside, Latto is ready to roll out her new album titled Sugar Honey Iced Tea. It is scheduled for an August release, two years after her sophomore album 777 came out. But before the full album drops, the Atlanta rapper graced the 2024 BET Awards stage in June to perform a medley of her songs from the album, Sunday Service and Big Mama.
She sported a leopard-printed outfit for the energetic rendition of her songs.
Her first single from the forthcoming album, Sunday Service, came out in February this year, followed by Big Mama in July.
Apart from her performance at BET Awards, Latto also went home with the Best Female Hip Hop Artist trophy as she won in the category over Cardi B, GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Coi Leray, and her rumored nemesis, Ice Spice. All nominated artists in the female Hip Hop category performed during the night, except Nicki and Cardi.
Later in the telecast, Latto also graced fans and viewers with a special rendition of one of Usher's hit songs, Yeah. She was part of the all-female tribute performance to the veteran R&B artist who was poised to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event.
