BlocBoy JB declared that he would “never switch sides on Drake” as the rapper posted a clear message for the rappers switching on Drake. Posting to his Instagram stories on November 30, 2024, BlocBoy JB wrote:
“I’ll never switch sides on anybody that helped me. This rap game different. Nig*as will fake fuc* with ya for the moment just cuz it’s beneficial. I’ll never switch up on da Ion. Giv AF what Cuh do.”
BlocBoy JB has worked with Drake on his track, Look Alive as the Canadian rapper featured on it. Released in February 2018, the song became an instant hit, as it topped many charts in the United States of America, and in many other countries.
The song was produced by Tay Keith, and was commercially the biggest hit for the producer and BlocBoy JB. For this, Keith and BlocBoy have been always appreciative of Drake, as the two have often stated how Drake was the one to present the idea of giving the song, Look Alive, to BlocBoy JB.
“He did us a favor by giving us the song” - Tay Keith’s previous statement explored
While BlocBoy has created and released many hit songs, the 2018 hit Look Alive earned him massive success. As Drake collaborated with the rapper and Keith for the song, Tay has often talked about it being the Canadian rapper’s idea.
In an interview with Billboard in 2018, Tay called Drake “the G.O.A.T,” and said:
“I had cooked up Drake a pack and that ended up being one of the beats he f*cked with. Then, we eventually sent it to BlocBoy JB and let him hop on it. We shot the video the same week. We really did everything quick. It was a real Memphis vibe. That’s what we gave y’all.”
He continued:
"When you’re doing big things, you could bring the city out. The whole idea was from Drake. He did us a favour by giving us the song. Drake’s the G.O.A.T.”
Apart from Drake, Look Alive also featured other rappers like Moneybagg Yo and Quando Rondo. Furthermore, the One Dance singer was also seen in the music video of the song, which has received more than 395 million views as of this writing.
Topping charts in countries like Australia, Belgium, France, New Zealand, Portugal, Uthe K, and Canada, the song also won many major awards and nominations.
Born in 1996, BlocBoy AKA James Lee Baker has released many hit songs, like Rover, which featured 21 Savage and was a follow-up to Look Alive.
He has also released other tracks like Shoot, Heartless, Prod by Bloc, Don’t Think That and many more.
To date, the rapper has released two albums, FatBoy in 2020 and then Bacc 2 Da Blocc in 2022. While BlocBoy released his statement about Drake and several rappers switching sides, the Canadian rapper has not yet spoken up on the matter.
