Joni Mitchell returns to live performance after two decades
On Saturday, Joni Mitchell triumphantly returned to live performance after a 24-year hiatus at a concert titled Joni Jam in Los Angeles, United States. According to Music News, the Canadian artist performed several songs live for the first time, including Sunny Sunday and God Must Be A Boogie Man.
During the show, Mitchell was joined by several notable artists, including Annie Lennox, Marcus Mumford, Brandi Carlile, and Rita Wilson. Together, they performed some of her beloved songs, including Big Yellow Taxi, California, Both Sides, Now, and a rendition of Elton John's I'm Still Standing.
The reason for her extended absence from the stage was a brain aneurysm. According to Parade, the artist was found unconscious and unresponsive in her home on March 31, 2015, after suffering a rupture of a brain aneurysm.
In an interview with The Guardian in October 2020, Joni Mitchell reflected on her recovery, revealing that she was learning to talk and walk again following the incident.
"Once again I couldn't walk. I had to learn how again. I couldn't talk. Polio didn't grab me like that, but the aneurysm took away a lot more, really. Took away my speech and my ability to walk. But I mean, I'm a fighter," Mitchell said.
Furthermore, Mitchell indicated that while she could speak relatively quickly, she faced challenges with walking. She expressed confidence in her recovery, attributing her resilience to her Irish heritage.
According to Today News, Mitchell made her return to public appearances in 2021 and has since received several accolades, including the Kennedy Center Honor. The publication also reported that the Canadian artist is currently in good health.
