For the first time since singer Liam Payne passed away on October 16 at the age of 31, his sister, Ruth Gibbins, paid tribute to him in a heartfelt Instagram post. She recalled how her brother, who was her "best friend", constantly made her laugh and claimed she was finding it difficult to accept that he was no longer with her.
Ruth wrote in the post shared on October 19, Sunday:
"I don't believe this is happening … Liam is my best friend, no one could ever make me laugh as much as him, doing his impressions always had me creasing and he loved seeing how much of a laugh he could get."
She said, Liam was born "with music in his veins" and would smile "with pride of his work" when he performed his new compositions for her. She concluded the letter by saying:
"I'm sorry I couldn't save you. Love you…"
Liam Payne's sister apologized to him for not being by his side in his final hours in a heartfelt tribute
Ruth Gibbins wrote that Liam Payne "just wanted to be loved" and "make people happy" with his songs. She added that Payne "moved out when he was 17 to chase his dreams" and that she would frequently travel to see him while he was competing on The X Factor, a British talent competition where he was a contestant before joining One Direction.
She shared that "Liam loved 1D" and referred to his bandmates as "his brothers." She also claimed that the two would frequently end up "laughing and talking through his plans and working through his issues."
Gibbins added that she was "in awe" of Liam Payne's talent and that what she "loved most" about him was his capacity to make her laugh.
She further added:
"I'm always in awe of your talent, it should be illegal to be so talented and just have the ability to not only be good at things but be bloody great at everything you attempt, without even knowing you're absolutely smashing it each time."
After expressing gratitude to the 1D star for "being the best brother and friend" she promised to "take care" of Bear, his seven-year-old son so that "he will always know how incredible his dad is." She concluded the tribute by writing:
"Thank you for changing my life, thank you for the incredible memories, thank you for being the best brother and friend I'll ever have.. I'd drive to the end of the universe to bring you back."
