Podcaster Joe Budden revealed why he hasn't listened to Eminiem's latest album, The Death of Slim Shady Coup de Grâce. During the Thursday, July 18, 2024, episode of Budden's eponymous podcast, the panel reviewed Em's new project.

While co-host Lamar "Ice" Burney gave the project a positive review, others questioned Joe about his thoughts, believing he would like it. Budden explained that he had yet to hear it.

"I will eventually listen to this, but I haven’t yet. Ain’t even thought about it yet," Budden said.

He explained that in his younger days, he would rush to listen to an Eminem project.

"I know where he stands as an MC. I know what he does. I didn’t feel that urgency with this. It has nothing to do with him or with music," Budden reasoned.

The podcaster added that his delay in listening has nothing to do with Em as a rapper, his music, or even the Mockingbird singer's diss tracks aimed at Budden. He added:

"I’ma check out the Em album, but I felt good that I have outgrown the urgency of having to rush to it."

The Death of Slim Shady Coup de Grâce is the rapper's twelfth studio album, released on July 12. It was preceded by singles, Houdini, and Tobey. Despite the buzz surrounding the project, it received mixed reviews.

"For me, Slim Shady helped me to live and stay alive" — Joe Budden opens up on his personal experience on the podcast

Despite mixed reviews, Death of Slim Shady peaked atop the Billboard 200 chart, marking Em's eleventh No. 1 project on the list. With 281,000 equivalent units sold in its debut week, it is 2024's largest week for a rap album. The project is a send-off for the rapper's alter ego, Slim Shady.

Joe Budden explained that Eminem's expressions with rap using Slim Shady helped him deal with his depression. He stated:

"For me, Slim Shady helped me to live and stay alive and deal with depression. Back then, that’s what he did for me."

Eminem and Joe Budden have a long history. In the early 2010s, when the latter was still active as a rapper, he was signed to Em's Shady Records as a part of the supergroup Slaughterhouse, along with Crooked I, Royce da 5'9", and Joell Ortiz.

Budden once voiced his criticism of Em's 2017 album Revival on his podcast. The following year, Eminem responded with a diss track, Kamikaze, where he directly addressed Joe Budden, rapping:

"Somebody tell Budden before I snap, he better fasten it/Or have his body baggage zipped/The closest thing he's had to hits is smacking b*tches."

This prompted Budden to say he was a "better rapper" than Eminem. Em later released another diss track, Music to Be Murdered, but the two have since warmed up to one another. Recently, the podcaster sided with Eminem during his feud with Benzino.

Eminem has not publicly reacted to Joe Budden's podcast remarks.
