Singer Sabrina Carpenter recently revealed that she feels distant from her time with Disney. In a profile by Variety, published on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, the Espresso singer spoke about her old songs when she was signed with Disney's Hollywood Records.

"For the people who love those early records and listen to them, I love you for that. But I personally feel a sense of separation from them, largely due to the shift in who I am as a person and as an artist, pre-pandemic and post-pandemic," Carpenter admitted.

The Feather singer rose to fame after appearing as Maya Hart on the Disney Channel's Girl Meets World. She began making music with Hollyeood Records in 2013, dropping four albums before leaving in 2019. Carpenter was best known for her songs like Thumbs, Sue Me, and Why during her time with Disney.

In January 2021, she signed with her current label, Island Records. Carpenter released her fifth album, Emails I Can’t Send, a year later.

"I’m 900 inappropriate jokes away from being a Disney actor"- Sabrina Carpenter about working on movies again

In the interview, Variety asked Sabrina Carpenter about her music career, and how she created an "unwarranted break" from her acting career. The singer explained that she's always on the lookout for working on an original film or a musical. However, she explained that they felt like "five other already released movies." Carpenter added:

"I'm 900 inappropriate jokes away from being a Disney actor, but people still see me that way. I’m always extremely flattered to be grouped in with the other women and girls who I’ve idolized and looked up to who came from that, but I feel very distant from it."

The Pennsylvania-born star elaborated on the first time she showed off her post-pandemic shift in her fifth album, Emails I Can’t Send. The project featured themes like coming-of-age, introspection, and relationships, all inspired by real life events. She explained:

"Emails was hard to put out, but it marked the beginning of a really freeing and artistic time for me."

The album was Sabrina Carpenter's highest-charting, peaking at No. 23 on the Billboard 200 for 43 weeks.

While Sabrina Carpenter was opening for Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour in 2023, every night she performed Nonsense, the singer changed the outro. These changes depended on the city and venue she was performing at, and at times they included innuendos.

Following her successful stint on the Eras tour, the songstress released her singles Espresso and Please, Please, Please from her upcoming album Short n’ Sweet. Both charted in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 3 and No. 1 spots, respectively.

During her interview with Variety, Sabrina Carpenter described the project as "the hot older sister" of Emails. She stated:

"It’s my second ‘big girl’ album; it’s a companion but it’s not the same. When it comes to having full creative control and being a full-fledged adult, I would consider this a sophomore album."

Particularly, both singles from Short n’ Sweet too are filled with f-bombs and innuendos. Short n’ Sweet is scheduled to drop on August 23.
