Sean "Diddy" Combs was taken into federal custody on the evening of Monday, September 16, from the Park Hyatt Hotel on West 57th Street in New York City, following a grand jury indictment. The 14-page indictment, which was unsealed the following morning, revealed the three felony charges against him of racketeering conspiracy, s*x trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

Diddy has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and has been denied bail twice by a federal judge in New York. As per CNN, the rapper is currently being detained at a Special Housing Unit in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) after being denied bail on Tuesday.

On Friday, September 20, People Magazine reported that the rapper has been placed on a suicide watch as he awaits trial. A 'suicide watch' as per the U.S. Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections is "supervisory precautions taken for suicidal inmates that require frequent observation." However, Marc Agnifilo, Diddy's attorney, has offered clarifications.

Saying how his client is "not at all suicidal," Agnifilo told TMZ exclusively that Diddy is,

"Strong, healthy, confident and focused on his defense."

As per TMZ, Agnifilo reportedly spent six hours with Diddy at the detention center on Thursday.

"Conditions at Metropolitan Detention Center are not fit for pre-trial detention" - Diddy's legal team in their bail request for the rapper

In one of the most recent court hearings, Marc Agnifilo asked the court whether Diddy could be transferred to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey. The decision has been referred to the Bureau of Prisons, which is currently reviewing it.

Metropolitan Detention Center, known for violence, poor living conditions, and delayed medical care is currently home to 1200 detainees as per AP News. Combs has joined the list of high-profile inmate list who was placed in federal custody in the detention center. These include musician R.Kelly, socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen and cryptocurrency fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried, among others.

Combs' legal team's plea to shift the artist to a different facility comes in the wake of violent activities that take place inside the prison. Early this year, a fatal stabbing took place and another inmate was killed in a brawl.

Speaking about the conditions at Metropolitan Detention Center, Combs' team said the following in a motion for bail filed on Tuesday:

"Several courts in this District have recognized that the conditions at Metropolitan Detention Center are not fit for pre-trial detention. Just earlier this summer, an inmate was murdered. At least four inmates have died by suicide there in the past three years.”

Sean "Diddy" Combs will be detained pending trial. If convicted, he could be looking at 15 years to life in federal prison.
