Rapper Lord Jamar shared his displeasure with Drake using the N-word. In a July 9, 2024, interview with The Art of Dialogue, the former seemingly stated that he believes that Drake allegedly talks ill of the Black community. The conversation comes after Drizzy’s rival, Kendrick Lamar, also expressed disappointment in Drake over the same.

During the interview, Lord Jamar opined on what Drake would say to his Caucasian friends about using the N-word. The former stated:

“I can see you going back to the White people when nobody’s around and being like, ‘yeah, I say n***a in rhymes and they don’t say anything to me, that’s cuz they think I’m one of them, but I'm really with you.’”

Lord Jamar also commented that he did not like how Drake turns his Blackness “on and off.” He seemingly stated that the Hotline Bling rapper sings like a Black musician. However, when he speaks to Caucasian people, he speaks in another manner.

For those uninitiated, Lord Jamar was a member of the Brand Nubian rap group. He was best known for being part of the Nation of Islam. The New Rochelle, New York native also took up acting roles and appeared in the Oz television series, among other shows.

“You gotta pick a side” - Lord Jamar agrees with Kendrick Lamar’s Drake criticism

The emcee also said in The Art of Dialogue interview that he agrees with Kendrick Lamar calling Drake "cringeworthy,” as the Toronto rapper occasionally uses the N-word. Lord Jamar went on to state that Drake was not allowed to use the phrase in a casual tone, similar to the way it is used in the Black community.

Jamar then asked Drake to “choose a lane” while talking about how the latter must proudly showcase his Black identity or not take advantage of Black culture at all. Lord Jamar said:

“He want to be everything to all people it seems like and you can’t do that. You gotta pick a side.”

The interview comes after Kendrick Lamar instigated a debate over Drake’s Blackness yet again. For those uninitiated, Drake is biracial. He is the son of a White Jewish mother who hails from Canada and a Black father from Memphis. In Kendrick Lamar’s Drake-diss track titled Euphoria, K. Dot crooned:

“How many more Black features ‘til you finally feel that you’re Black enough?”

Drake has also spoken about struggling with his cultural identity in the past. In a 2019 interview with Rap Radar, he stated that he does not feel “Black enough” for the industry and has also been excluded for being half-white.

He also said during the interview that he identifies as a Black man. Drizzy then lamented over not being celebrated as a Black artist. He said:

“It’s something that I just acknowledge, and I keep moving.”

In Jamar’s latest interview, he stated that although he has certain issues with the Canadian rapper, he believes that the latter creates “some catchy f**king s**t.” However, Jamar then stated that this could likely be the reason why Drake “gets away” with using the N-word.
